Cape Cod eats

We're headed to the Cape in late July and staying right in Provincetown.
Any suggestions for great casual and fine dining places? I need your help!

It's been a long time since I was on the Cape, so I really don't have any recent recommendations.

Try looking here:

Hope it helps, and have a wonderful time!

On another blog I read, a someone asked the same questions and another reader made these recommendations.

Front Street Restaurant is right on Commercial Street and the food is fabulous. When I looked it up on Trip Advisor, there were two complaints about bad service - but we were there in August, the week before Labor day and had wonderful service - so who knows? Great food!

The other good place that's open in Feb. is Whaler's Inn. It's a great lunch spot, a good bar and the food at night is quite good as well - a little more top drawer at night.

One more spot - Ross's Grill, again on Commercial Street. I am not sure if it's open in the winter - but the food is good if it is!

I cannot vouch for them, not having been to any but on his return the person who asked reported back: :

Hi gang, have returned from my lovely lovely little vacation. Provincetown is indeed lovely this time of year! I was blessed with 3 days of sunshine shimmering off the waters, and in the evenings a beautiful full moon, (one evening complete with eclipse), shone like a painting off the bay waters. My room was lovely and I'd spend my reading time with the fireplace playing, a book in hand and a view of the harbour and bay. I am highly recommending The Mews and Fanizzi's by the Sea and Napi's for excellent eating and lovely service. Sadly The Bistro at Crowne Point was a little disappointing.

If you are looking for the "best fried clams" and charcoal grilled burgers on the Cape, head north on the mid Cape highway (Route 6) and get off exit 9. Head down Rt 134 towards Dennisport. At the junction of Rt 28 and Rt 134 you will see the "Kream n Kone". You've arrived!

I usually spend my summer in North central Massachusetts, and I remember seeing a fine dining magazine published by restaurants on the cape. Try calling the Provincetown Chamber of Commererce and see if they will send you a copy of this publication, it lists menu items, locations, seating, prices, ect. I love Massachusetts, and hope you have a great time.

Bookstore & Restaurant in Wellfleet serves great seafood -- I'm not a huge shellfish eater, but their oysters and mussels were really, really fresh and very good, and they've got this awesome Portuguese stew. It's a cute little bookstore/restaurant hybrid and has this great, homey feel because it's all in this big giant beach house. Sit on the porch and lounge with the dogs! :)

As for fish and chips, everyone has their own favorite, but I always go to Cooke's in Orleans. It kind of looks like a sterilized fast food place, but the fish has always been awesome, and they've also got some really good clam chowder.

Also found a cool Thai and Mediterranean fusion restaurant last summer called Abba (also in Orleans). The combination works extremely well, and they had one of the best pad thais I've ever had (normally, I find pad thai to be boring and standard, but it was really, REALLY good here).

Anybody have any reccomendations for South Yarmouth/Dennis or Hyannis area?

I have spent several summers in Provincetown. It is one of my favorite places and offers a few decent dining options.. Two standouts include Cafe Edwige ( my favorite), their breakfast and dinners are wonderful.

And Chester http://www.chesterrestaurant.com/, good for a special occasion.

You might also try Clem and Ursies for lobster rolls, clams etc. though it has been getting mixed reviews lately. Have a great time!

Our family's favorite is Clem and Ursie's. Very good lobster in the rough as well as big portions of BBQ and Portuguese seafood specialties, and amazing cakes for dessert (also, $1 apiece Wellfleet oysters during happy hour). It has a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Lorraine's at the west end of Commercial street has been one of our favorites for years. Higher-end Mexican mixed with American. A huge tequila menu. I read a review elsewhere that said that Lorraine's is recently going downhill - I haven't been there for a year, so don't know if that's true. Last meal we had there was excellent.

The Bookstore restaurant (already mentioned) in Wellfleet has out-of-this-world oyster stew (with a thick layer of butter floating on the top); the rest of the food is fine and fresh, but nothing special; the view from the deck is wonderful, though.

My favorite fish and chips is actually at the little take-out shack right on the Wellfleet pier.

Also in PTown is a little place called Caribbean Corner Cafe that makes excellent arepas and other South American treats. Amazingly delicious and all made while you wait.

Finally, The Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet is one of our new favorites. They have great breakfasts, too!

@rossadavis.......Check out the "Kream n Kone" on Rt 28 in Dennisport. It rocks!
