A slice of 9th avenue

a couple of years ago, i attended a dance performance alvin ailey, which is located on 9th avenue and 55th street. on my way there, i stopped into a little hole in the wall pizza joint and had an astonishingly good slice of pizza. all i can remember is that it must be in the 50's on the west side of the street, and i think it's below 55th but above 50th. the place itself was small with nothing more than a counter and a few tables. i think it had white walls and a white tile floor. they were mildlyl surprised when i told them how great their pizza was.

does anyone here {hey adam, are you there?} know of this place and if it still exists?

I don't mean to be mean, but I had to chuckle a bit at your question. In New York, there are pizza joints literally on every block and your description could apply to almost any of them. However, it could have been one of the many Ray's, but most of those are not on numbered streets in that neighborhood but on avenues. Some people debate about the pizza--how good it is, which one is legit (there are many incarnation of names: Famous Ray's, Famous Original Ray's, etc.)--but there are a few locations of Ray's in the general vicinity you describe. Good luck!

Cybercita - The pizza place you are talking about is Sacco pizza on ninth ave between 53rd and 54th st west side of the street. 212-582-7765. (Yes the number is memorized) Sorry PAWriter, you are only half right. there are pizza places on every block but they do not all have great pizza. IMHO this is one of the best new york slices in the city. I grew up on them and still order from them.

As a former resident of Hell's Kitchen on 53rd and 9th Ave, cybercita's description was all anyone needed to identify Sacco's. When the food is that good, it was easy to pinpoint. Well done Nelson.

you guys rock! thanks, nelson and birddoggie!!!

Thank You and you are welcome. Definitely a hell's kitchen treasure.
