I think I know who you're referring to. If I'm thinking of the right person, she very briefly had a show. It was called "The Gourmet Next Door." It had several strikes against it from the start because of the ungrammatical title.
I think I watched an episode of it several months ago in a fit of unproductivity on a weekend morning. It wasn't anything special. I didn't intend to watch then and wouldn't plan on watching again.
Her name is Amy Finley. Because I remembered the title of her show, I looked it up on their website. No episodes scheduled. She didn't last long. Guy is the only one who has actually made it. The Hearty Boys didn't last either.

Well, compared to Amy, The Heart Boys lasted for ever:-) At least the FN still airs their reruns (and if I'm not mistaken, they've had more than one season - two, maybe? Or three?), while Amy's show is gone altogether after one short season. Not that I miss it, because the one epi I actually caught once didn't make me want to watch it again. Not sure how much of it is her fault though.

...The Hearty Boys, of course...

The Hearty Boys lasted longer than her though. And I really thought Finley should have been eliminated earlier than she had (she came back after another contestant withdrew).
I think Guy's success is due to the fact that he is capable of "hosting" shows. Both "Triple D" and Ultimate Recipe Showdown are where he doesn't have to cook. He seems like FN's new go to guy for that kind of thing.

I personally voted for Amy's competitor. I'm fairly certain that her name is Rori. She was opening a restaurant in Texas. She seemed more suited to the Food Network "brand" than Amy because she was easier to follow, more energetic, and worked more with recipes I would use. I caught Amy's show a time or two, and I never felt engaged in what she was doing.

After they gave Sandra SLop a show I would imagine the bar has been lowered. Anyone can get a show. Got a crock pot and some spray cheese? You could be a star. LMAO!

LOL@Jerz...How true.
Reality show winners have a big hurdle to leap with me (if it matters). Guy Fieri annoys the crap out of me. I didn't really care for the Hearty Boys - not my type of party food. I think the only person of any talent that came out of any reality show is Daughtry - and he didn't even win!
Let's face it - as Jerzee says above, giving SLop a show has set the bar very low @ TVFN. An ant couldn't limbo under it.

I hated the Hearty Boys. I thought they were rigid and didn't seem comfortable in front of the camera.
I've not watched any of those competitions and obviously I'm not not missing anything if 2 of the "winners" are already off the air.
I think Guy has the right personality to host shows- he's outgoing and passionate about food. Maybe he is the next Marc Summers and luckily missed the whole green slime phase...
Don't get me started on Ms. SLop.

Amy Finley writes a column for BonAppetit. Fast, family friendly -- I think she's a regular contributor now.
suthungirl at 11:46AM on 05/07/08
O.K. so you had to go there, I don't even know why they have this next food star show anyways, the programing they have now is a total joke the Neeley....are you kidding me and then the FN trys to shove Guido down your throut, so why would anybody want to partake in the next foodnetwork star to only do 1 season and the Neelys already starting season 2, and if that isn't a slap in the face of the people that really gave it there all to star in a food show....and now Paulas partys yuck....I turn my T.V. off and I use to watch FN endlessly now they don't have anything to tune into....
Markbb at 12:02PM on 05/07/08
I enjoy the Neelys personally, althought Gina is a tad too raw for my tastes. Amy Finley gave an interview on the Food Network site as part of the publicity for the upcoming NFNS. She pretty much said that due to family commitments and the brutal criticism of her online, she decided not to renew her show. She now lives in France with her family; they teach cooking classes in some small village.

@bitter & suthungirl--What?! She's living in France, teaching cooking classes, and writes a column for Bon Appetit??!!
Man, I am so jealous. I'm sure it's a picture perfect little village. I bet every day she rides her vintage mint green Puegeot bicycle with the ubiquitous straw basket of flowers and bagguettes, she's probably learning French, and eating great food (not necessarily her own cooking).
So all those people who wrote the brutal online criticisms of her show did her a big favor.

They got it right with Guy Fieri. He's the only "winner" that's any good. The other "winners" are just plain awful. Amy is too wooden. I love Guy's "Diners & Drives.." it makes me want to run right out to the diner and order a big stack of pancakes! And his food on "Guy's Big Bite" makes my mouth water.
SavtaShayna at 5:58PM on 05/07/08
Amy is (maybe) talented but BORING.
bessfour at 7:25PM on 05/07/08
Guy has some interesting recipes, and I like DD&D, but his spiky hair and manpris creep me out. I also hate to see him shovel food in his face.
