Whataburger -- Anybody eaten at one before?

Hello everyone.

I know that Whataburger is not in New York, but are there any readers here that have eaten at one before? Anybody that lives in the south, or southeast? Maybe visited there?

If so, what did you think about them? If you don't mind me asking.

Here in Texas, they are quite common. Not as common as McDonald's or Burger King, but still quite popular.

Heck yeah Whataburger is probably the better of the fast food burger, I also like the whatachicken sandwich too....

I've never had one, but my parents still tell stories about the Whataburgers they had in the 70s.

My dad loves their burgers I prefer the grilled chicken sandwich or the chicken tender basket (with texas toast and cream gravy).

Sometimes their food is too salty (even for fast food). And they take forever (made to order), which is nice for your food but sucks when you're in a line.

I believe they butter and toast their buns, which should be done everywhere always.

WhataHUHburger, WhataHUHsandwich? Sorry, never heard of them here in the mid-atlantic (states, not ocean!....haha).

i lived in NC for a few years an ate at WATABURGER every once in a while....very good food......the atmosphere was kinda like bein back in the 60's....when you ordered a burger they just yelled the order thru the kitchen window.......now my question......anybody that's ate at a wataburger know what a "witch doctor" is?........hint.....some type of drink....

I've seen them, but have never been to one. Is it true that it is pronounced "WATERburger?"

It's pronounced What - a- burger. They are pretty good for fast food. Not nearly as good as In 'n Out Burger and miles behind Five Guys Burgers... but better than McDonald's or Burger King.

Hey, it's great too some folks have heard of them!

The chain started here in Texas, back in 1961, so they've been around a while. But they have a limited presence, as far as big fast-food chains go. Currently, they have locations in 10 states.

@Kerosena -- It's 'supposed' to be pronounced What A Burger.... like "MMMmmm what a burger!"... but I hear people say WATERburger all the time. Hehe :)

Just in case anybody is interested, here is their home page. http://whataburger.com

Here is a map for those in the South or SouthEast States for checking locations near you. http://www.whataburger.com/one_near_you.php

I might have me a double-meat double-cheese with bacon and jalepenos tonight! Followed by Tums Extra Strength. :)

sbelle beat me!

I guess I'm going to have to find a Five Guys, so I can check it out.

There is supposed to be one coming to Texas I think.

We had them in MW Florida where I used to live. The burgers were good. The fries and rings were so-so. It's a step up from McD's, BK, and Wendy's, but it's no In and Out.

Oh yes! Hamburgers with mustard! They were huge! That was the place we ate our burgers when we lived in Texas in the 80's. (Although there was this shack near Lawton OK that had THE best burger in the world, I wish I could remeber the name of the place.)

Whataburger is our "splurge of choice". The burgers are perfect: not too thick, 3 tomato slices, 3 pickles, mustard and they are evenly distributed. They need no salt or pepper. The buns are just like I remember from when I was a kid. Their fries are hot and crisp and I love their catsup. Well rats, so much for my diet...headed over to Whataburger for lunch now!

I love "waterburger" (what everyone - at least in the Dallas area) calls it. (They have these commercials now emphasizing the correct pronunciation at the end. I thought the origin of the name was the use of steam to cook - but not sure if that's just a myth.) My favorite part is that there's still a normal sized meal on the value menu ("junior" whataburger, small fries, small drink).

I'm a HUGE what-a-burger fan!! It's the only place we'd go in college after a night out on the town, or the morning after.... An ex of mine was from Corpus Christi where the original Whataburger was and he treated the place like a fast food shrine. All hail the honey chicken biscuit!! Pretty entertaining. I'm pumped to see a whole thread about it!!!

We used to "cruise" the "Waterburger" after a Friday football game in highschool. You were only allowed to "cruise" if you were a football player or cheerleader. Everyone else was relegated to the Sonic.

@giordano1956 ... having just moved to VA from Lawton, OK (hubby is military) I can probably help with the burger shack question. Meer's - awesome burgers! http://www.meersstore.com/

There's one right next to my office. We eat there when we're swamped and can't get out. Pretty decent for fast food -- not nearly as good as 5 guys. I do have a thing though for their bacon, egg, and cheese taquito's.

I grew up in Texas, and Whataburger is THE fast food burger joint to go to. I looooove those burgers. I live in South Carolina now, so I can't get them though.
I've had 5 guys and In-and-Outs, but Whataburger beats them hands down! The burger is always cooked fresh, the veggies are always crisp, and the fries absolutely rock. You can't get a better burger anywahere. What a burger!!!
