Sex and The City...

I just opened my mail and I received an invitation to a Sex and The City girl's night out party. We are going to see the movie, then back to the house for Cosmos. ( I am thinking of sneaking some Cosmos in to the show ;-O) We will need some good eats to go with the Cosmos. What do you suggest?

i cannot believe i am saying this, but to be really authentic you could eat magnolia cupcakes with your cosmos. i am not a fan of their baking, but it would be in very much in the theme of sex in the city. if i were you i would just get some cupcakes from your favorite bakery. if you want something savory and your friends have a sense of humor you could buy some penis-shaped pasta (they sell it at sex shops) and cook that up. have fun! i am in madrid so i have to wait until the end of june to see it.

I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know what food would be appropriate re: the film, but from the series:

1. Apple pie (for the apple pie Carrie baked in Suffrin' NY)

2.Krispy Kremes (or other doughnut) for Miranda's fixation during her Weight Watcher's phase

3. Chocolate Cake for the cake Miranda baked during her chocolate obsession phase

4. A birthday cake for when Carrie was stood up at a restaurant by all of her friends

5. A strawberry shake for the shake Carrie drank when dating the writer: 'somehow I knew you were a strawberry shake girl'

6. Sushi, for the episode begun in a trendy sushi bar (forget the name)

So basically, I would say, serve lots of kinds of cake, a pie, some finger food like sushi and fruit, and lots of alcohol

Guacamole (this will make sense later).

Burgers (for the schmuck who left the post it note). They can be tiny appetizer sized burgers made of the best meat perched on a punched out slice of whole wheat, adorned with a drop of ketchup and mustard.

Raw Veggies for the restaurant where Samantha met Smith (as a waiter).

If anyone you know bakes pate a choux, have him or her pipe the form of a male reproductive organ. (Pate a choux holds its shape when baked.) Fill said form with cream of your choice. This covers a couple of favorite items. (Pastry and... Samantha's favorite food.)

Make some mini-cupcakes with boxed chocolate cake mix and a jar of frosting. Then you'll cover the episodes with Magnolia, Miranda's chocolate obsession, and Miranda decorating cupcakes for Steve's girlfriend. You might also want to have some sushi and McDonald's fries on hand, too.

And you MUST sneak cosmos into the theater. Just mix them up and pour into safe-looking cranberry juice bottles and hide them in your fabulous Hermes bag.

@chiff - Did you see the movie already?

OMG! Do what chiff suggested! The pate choux idea is toooooo hilarious and perfect!

While I was thinking sex-themed, too. I was also trying to come up with a fabulous shoe-theme...just can't figure out how to work Jimmy Choo stillettos into food. Maybe have all those cupcakes decorated with icing shoes or fondant shoes?

@izatryt - Yes, I was one of the brave (and insane) who went to see it on the night it was released. There were A ZILLION women in the audience and the previews contained every chick flick being released from now till the middle of next year.

The movie really is great. Lots of plot twists I was not expecting. If anyone is a true SATC fan, he or she needs to see the movie.

@chiff - I can't wait! We are doing it up big time Friday night. We voted to smuggle in the Cosmos. I am wearing my one and only pair of MB's. Tomorrow I am calling my favorite pastry chef to order the pate a choux (thanks for that one!) as I am in charge of dessert for the party. I have never asked her for anything quite so "rated", so we shall see what her response will be. ;-D

The movie was everything I hoped it would be =)

In terms of food..how can we forget the GIANT "I Love You" Chocolate Chip Cookie that Miranda destroyed in seconds?!?!

I didn't realize that she had such a sweet tooth from the series, but it seems obvious after this discussion..

If you want to eat in tune with the movie, I would say chocolate pudding, guacamole and sushi!

GUACAMOLE AND SUSHI.

Chinese chicken and broccoli for the time Miranda thought the take-out girl was laughing at her.

Well we did it too. Went to the 2 o'clock matinee last Friday when it opened. A couple of my women clients and I met for drinks at my place in Tampa. First we had Cosmos, of course. They were so good! All made with fresh lime juice and decorated with orange slices. They were pretty and yummy! We just had cheese and crackers and pepperoni, yes i weanied out. And chocolate cake, which i did make! The move was great. Remember when the end of soprano's left you just kinda pissed off. Well this didn't. LOL.

@All - PLEASE don 't give anything away. We are going Friday. When I look at the posts, I keep one eye closed. (just in case)

@izatryt - We would NEVER give anything away. That's like, the rules of feminism! (quoting "Mean Girls") Although I DID accidentally just tell my BFF about how Big goes into anaphylactic shock after eating shrimp...

@ embolini - &^%^&^$*^$^$#!@#$%^&!!!!!!!!!! No way......

Well now! It took a thread like this one to actually get me to participate! It has been quite entertaining to be a voyeur of this site. BIG fan of the series. The movie will not disappoint. As a "cougar" I am looking at sushi so differently these days. *Purring heard here*.

(My interaction with all things food are well.........so Samantha)

@chiff - Holy Guacamole! We decided when the movie comes out on DVD, we are going to have another party and watch the movie again. Way too much fun. Did the Cosmo thing too. You should have seen the pate a choux! I have one word.......Dante.

@iz - Did you take pix of the ahem... replica??? Please tell me someone took pix! If you host them on photobucket or anything, you can put a link here (just not the photo). You can also e-mail me a pic if you like at chiffonade@hotmail.com. I'd love to see it! I made one for a friend over 20 years ago and that thing was such a hit!

Um, No? *cringing here* It was crazy and remember, we were drinking cosmos at the movie. I was hung over for 2 days! Remember what Samantha said when she was talking about eating everything insight except, you know, well I sort of, well, you know! But hey, it really wasn't me, it was the cosmos. My face was numb! How bad is that?? :-O
