sending a package to my mom for mother's day...
This is a pretty lame topic BUT -- I am completely running out of creativity and would love some suggestions. For Mother's Day I will be sending my Mom SOMETHING baked as a gift and I can't think of anything interesting. Chocolate chip cookies seem boring. Scones? Muffins? It will probably take 3 days in priority mail from LA to Boston, so there is the freshness factor to consider. I don't know, anyone have any epiphanies they'd like to share with me? Would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Rather than something baked, try something to be baked --- cookie or other mixes in Mason jars with a recipe attached. Pack it in a basket with some tea, a nice jam and a tea towel to round it out.
OR bean soups mixes make a nice presentation. Layer ingredients colorfully.
OR some homemade preserved lemons.
OR a homemade cordial. (Ratafia, limoncello.)
OR flavored vinegars and dipping oils.
You can google for recipes and can print them on card stock. I've used vintage poster graphics to make them look pretty.

Biscotti (because isn't it supposed to be a bit 'stale') and a pound of some decadent coffee wrapped up in a mug.

Unless you're Fed Xing, I'd pass on the already-baked stuff and do a mix for her (or a series of mixes). They are wonderful. All my friends love getting mixes from me (not to mention family). You can do scone mixes of several varieties and make lemon curd (which you can heat seal in a hot water bath). Enclose a couple of nice teas and maybe a beautiful china cup and saucer.
Whatever you decide, your mom will love it.

I would do a selection of sweetmeats: candied citrus peel dipped in chocolate, marzipan dipped in chocolate, homemade caramels - that sort of thing. I write this as someone whose own mother is entirely interested in baked goods, but would definitely appreciate some little exotic bites of this and that. Plus, making candies at home is easy and amusing.

how about a variety of spiced nuts? I've made jerk cashews, cinnamon peanuts, the variety's are endless. Fanny Farmer had a recipe of sweet nuts, but just use whatever you like, or she likes for flavor. and if you lower the oven temp to 200 you can use already roasted nuts.

These are such good ideas -- clearly my creativity was lacking because I think you guys are right about not sending already baked and doing either a mix or something else . She loved spiced pecans, caramels, tea, and scones, etc, so I think we're onto something!!
Thanks guys for the help. Much appreciated.

awesome kjgibson! I was hoping for savory gift ideas. I don't even need to start a thread.
