Where is the best place to eat for a romantic dinner, I prefer Italian or Seafood but we are open to anything. Thanks!

One If By Land Two If By Sea. Per Zagat "If you can't score here you're hopeless." (Always liked that one.)

Seriously - it's one of the most romantic places ever established. There isn't a corner of the place that's not romantic but if you can get a table near the fireplace (even if it's not going), all the better.

Warning, it's $$$$$ but worth every single penny.

One If By Land Two If By Sea is very romantic but the food's just not that great.

If you're looking for Italian, Babbo is very romantic but a pain in the ass to get a reservation, Peasent is a little easier and at Il Buco you'll fell like you're eating in an Italian couintryside farmhouse.

You can also do Italian/Seafood all at once and visit Batali's Esca which if the outdoor seating is open is very romantic (first dinner with my girlfriend) the tasting menu with the crudo and paired wines is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life

The River Cafe is very romantic and has great food and a great view of the skyline. They're known for excellent seafod and desserts. My husband and I ate here and it was worth every penny.

I must have caught them on an up night last time I went because everything was perfect, beginning to end. We had the Chef's Tasting (the one that includes the signature Beef Wellington).

my favorite romantic spots in the city have to be blue hill (very fresh, delicious american food and their seafood is always perfect, and the service has been great, which i think is key to a romantic evening) and the bourgeois pig (fondues, champagne cocktails, chocolate in every shape and form...my best friend described it as like being in a vampire's castle...think everything draped in velvet, vintage chandeliers, and edith piaf on the sound system).

Water's Edge in Long Island City. Ask to be seated outside, and time your arrival to an hour before sunset. There's a free water ferry that takes you from Midtown directly to the restaurant. There are few better views of Manhattan's skyline, and together you'll watch the sun set behind the buildings and the lights of the city come on. It's not cheap, but the food (last time I was there) is pretty wonderful.

@billyburgwife - I'm going to blue hill for my anniversary next week! i guess we chose wisely

Blue Hill is a fine choice. I also think Gramercy Tavern is a fine place for a romantic dinner. The flowers are beautiful and the tables are really well-spaced, so it's easy to talk. I think being able to talk is an important aspect of any romantic dinner. Chanterelle is another fine spot for a romantic dinner, though it can get a tad noisy when it's full. Lastly, Craft is an excellent spot for a romantic dinner. Again, I love the well-spaced tables and the layout in general.
