My favorite grilled food is ____

Just in time for the Memorial Day barbecues!

What is everyone's favorite grilled item? Is it hot dogs? Chicken? Scallops? (I know, there are too many choices!)

My favorite grilled meal would probably be chicken kabobs with tomatoes, and grilled asparagus and corn on the cob on the side.

Has anyone ever grilled fruit for dessert??

40 Comments:

Marinated Portabello Mushrooms.

And, I absolutely LOVE grilled Pineapple for dessert!!! (Top with just a tiny bit of mascarpone cheese while still hot.... heaven!)

grilled ribeye, with a side of corn on the cob (grilled in husk). this is the one time i use garlic salt -- so good on the steak and corn.

Cuban corn. Hands down.

Brook trout. Or some good sweet peaches & cream corn in late August.

Garlic Shrimp, portobellas, juicy chicken in greek marinade, ahi tuna, salmon, new potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes, scallops..

Big, beefy burger of course. Sausages. Tuna steaks in a nice marinade. Pineapple. Marinated shrimp kebabs. Grilled butterflied Florida lobster tails basted in salty, garlicky butter!

OH my god unfair question. Chicken kabobs, steak, burgers, hot dogs....actually I'm not sure if there's anything I wouldn't eat as long as it was grilled.

Porrrrrrrkkkkkk.

Sweet Potatoes

Scrub a large sweet potato.

Slice vertically 1/4" thick. This is best done with a santoku or other large blade. Chef's knives tend to "pull" towards the bottom of the cut, making the bottom edge very thin.

Grill dry over low/medium heat for about 1-2 minutes per side.

Flip slices again and brush with:

1/3 cup Corn/Canola/Safflower, or Peanut oil (neutral, not olive)
1/4 cup Real Maple Syrup
pinch salt
(Taste mixture and add maple syrup, if necessary)

Grill only about 1 minute after applying baste as sweet potatoes + maple syrup + heat = scorched if not watched carefully. Turn slices one more time so you can brush the dry side with baste. By this time, you should see bubbles on the surface of the slices - this means they're cooked through.

If you have leftovers (doubtful), they make nice sandwich additions.

I could probably go into Bubba Gump mode and recite a list of things that I love grilled....

As for fruit, I love to grilll pineapples and peaches or nectarines. They're are sweet enough to grill plain. Eat on their own or serve with some ice cream for a hot/cold contrast.

Anything on a stick.....

Got to go with a grilled lamb chop or a fire roasted lobster drizzled with a bit of saffron butter. Oh Baby Oh

Pork tenderloin! A nice spicy rub, some grilled veges and fruit on the side (try wrapping fresh cherries in foil with a few fresh thyme sprigs and some balsamic - makes a great topping for the pork), perhaps a baked potato or rice... can't beat it.

My favorite grilled food is a charred hot dog. Don't get me wrong, I like hamburgers, steak, chicken, fish - anything! - better than hot dogs most of the time. But there's some mysterious alchemy that transforms a tube of questionable bits into a summertime delicacy when a hot dog gets about 50% blackened on a grill.

A nice cut of filet mignon grilled over kiawe wood, seared just enough to cook the edges and cold in the center, with some fresh ground pepper at the end. Serve it with rice and some lettuce on the side (no dressing). Heavenly. Ahhhh!

Ooh, grilled chicken thighs and barbecue sauce. Love.

Although I do enjoy an excellent bbq chicken leg, my favorite grilled food is grilled eggplant with olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper.

We're talking grilling, not BBQ? (That would be ribs). Still SO not fair. Let's see.......burgers, sausages, chicken, steak, all manner of seafood, veggies, fruit. Hmmm.....ok, if I have to pick one, I'll say beer can lemon chicken (snuck two in there....haha).

Lately it's a Cherry Tomato wrapped in Bacon stuck with a toothpick...sublime!

garlic spears w/ a touch of lemon zest, olive oil and a pinch of sea salt.

eggplant with honey, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and cayenne

I have to pick just one? That's like picking my favorite sister, or my favorite puppy picture.

Okay. My favorite grilled food would be a boneless lamb shoulder, flavored with garlic slivers and fresh rosemary inserted in small slits throughout. I would cry out with my arms uplifted, "Take me now Lord. I'll never be closer to Heaven."

But I wouldn't say no to a good hot dog either.

Get ahold of yourselves; my favorite is calf's liver that has been marinated in milk for a few hours. Don't over cook it and serve along with grilled corn on the cob, some slaw and grilled pineapple slices.
On a lazy day just throw on some Johnsonville brats ;~O

a well done hot dog!

i once grilled some polenta that had been cooked with plenty of garlic and parmesan, cooled, cut into slabs, and brushed with olive oil. it was insanely good, chewy and crusty on the outside and creamy in the middle.

A turkey burger! Then, put on a nice wheat with onions and fresh tomatoes. Maybe a slice of provolone or swiss.

Also I LOVE LOVE LOVE corn on the cob (grilled, not grilled....)

sweet italian sausage #1 fresh squid w/ lemon #2

I love anything grilled, but it's hard to beat a good old hot dog from the grill... there is just something about a dog on the grill...

I'd have to say kalbi - Korean beef short ribs. Mmmmm......

Big juicy burgers off the grill, topped with cheese and a sliced tomato.

A quality natural casing hot dog that has been simmerred in water first.

Spicy Chicago style Italian Sausage "sangwich" with a sweet red sauce and served on Gonnella bread.

Hot dog! I just can't pass up a hot dog that's been grilled. I don't even care what brand it is.

went 2 weeks without power after Katrina and you can bbq damn near anything on a pit, eggs, toast, cabbage, bacon, onions, garlic and freshly killed squirrels.

pork seems to be the best on the smoking embers but chicken, beef and seafood also are great on the grill.

Portabellos, Corn, asparagus, red peppers

Also: my fave veggie burgers and terriyaki marinated tofu.

My father makes an awesome grilled dessert...strawberries, blueberries and raspoberries cooked (on the side burner) in blueberry wine and served over one of those little yellow shortcakes (grilled) and topped with whipped cream or ice cream. It is INSANE.

Grilled peaches are also incredible.
