Margarita
Lately I've been having cravings for the perfect margarita, which is bizarre because I haven't had one for ages and the last one I had was repulsive. It came topped with whipped cream and a cherry- yuck. I want to make a pitcher of delicious margaritas, does anyone have any suggestions or recipes?

The recipe for Jimmy Buffett's own "Perfect Margarita" is available here, along with some of Margaritaville's other versions.

This is something I came up with at a cocktail tasting is different and works really well, it's called a Nueva Maergarita
2 ounces really good silver tequila (I recommend Patron but Sauza works as well)
1 ounce of freshly squeezed blood orange juice
1/2 ounce of falernum (Velvet is now readily available)
shake with ice and strain into margarita glass and for each guest flame a blood orange peel above each drink and drop in (this adds a wonderful smokey orange flavor, which plays great with the tequila and falernum)
enjoy!

PumpkinBear--whipped cream and a cherry?!!! Scandalous!! or Sacrilege!! You poor dear!
OK here's the version everyone loves and it's not necessary to use expensive top shelf in this version.
In a pitcher filled with ice, not jammed in, just almost full.
Pour in 2 parts tequila (I like Cuervo Especial), 2 parts triple sec or Cointrea if you like the good stuff, 1 part sours mix, 1 part fresh OJ and 1/2 part or less Rose's sweetened lime juice. Shake with the ice or stir madly without breaking your pitcher. Pour gently into salt rimmed glasses with a little more ice in the them. It might seem like a buzz-kill, but the water in the ice is a necessary component of a good cocktail.
OK here's the version for the purists:
Really good tequila, but not so good it's $100. (Patron Silver would be appropriate here, but Hurra Durra Silver or Gold is really good, too).
Cointreau
Fresh squeezed juice of two oranges, one lemon, one lime.
All on the rocks, 2-1-1 ratio, shake. I love margaritas, but straight tequila no matter how good, makes me flashback & barf, so my ratio is equal parts and shake.

RECIPE: The Best Fresh Margaritas
We were tired of margaritas made with little more than ice, tequila, and artificially flavored syrups. Could we come up with the ultimate margarita: a balanced blend of fresh citrus flavors and tequila? We used correct proportions (equal parts juice, orange liqueur, and tequila) for balance; the right alcohol (Triple Sec and a reposado tequila made from 100 percent blue agave) for a mellow, delicate flavor; and the best citrus mix (lemon and lime zest steeped in their juices) for refreshing flavor. Finish with a bit of sugar and a pinch of salt.
4 teaspoons grated lime zest
1/2 cup lime juice from 2 to 3 medium limes
4 teaspoons grated lemon zest
1/2 cup lemon juice from 2 to 3 medium lemons
1/4 cup superfine sugar
Pinch table salt
2 cups crushed ice
1 cup 100 percent agave tequila, preferably reposado
1 cup Triple Sec
Combine lime zest and juice, lemon zest and juice, sugar, and salt in large liquid measuring cup; cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until flavors meld, 4 to 24 hours.
Divide 1 cup crushed ice between 4 or 6 margarita or double old-fashioned glasses. Strain juice mixture into 1-quart pitcher or cocktail shaker. Add tequila, Triple Sec, and remaining crushed ice; stir or shake until thoroughly combined and chilled, 20 to 60 seconds. Strain into ice-filled glasses; serve immediately.
