Making Paella - need a side dish!

For Mother's Day, my sister and i are making a seafood paella but I would also like to serve at least one side dish. Anyone have any suggestions? I thought tostones (crispy, fried green plaintains) would be a nice side, but that's what i usually do...I'd like to try something different! So, let's hear it...

I'd do something green and leafy. You can make broccoli rabe (or regular broccoli), asparagus, artichokes, etc. Don't forget a big salad.

What are you doing for dessert??

Since the paella has the starch and protein, I agree with chiff0nade, do something green or a salad. Something with some crunch or crisp to contrast with the softer texture of the paella.

IMHO, you can get your veggies into the paella. I'd be looking for something a bit unusual like a salad of cubed melons and avocados with a squeeze of citrus over it. Maybe something salty or spicy mixed in for contrast... Don't forget the sangria!

When I was in Spain I saw asparagus everywhere, so that's what I think of as a Spanish side dish. I agree with the idea of leafy greens too.

chiff0nade, for dessert im making both a strawberry-rhubbarb and a key lime pie. thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Roasted asparagus. If you can get your hands on some peppers and roast them as well with some sherry wine vinegar. I like the cubed melon idea as well.

stay with the plantain theme... when I used to have paella a la marinera, we usually accompanied it with Platanos Maduros (Ripe Sweet Plantains)... Check these out...

how could I forget... even if you're making the sweet plantains, no paella is ever complete without a side of my GARLIC BREAD!!!!

Something green I agree

My Orange Balsamic Asparagus - Cool or room temperature, nice and green, a little citrus kick, and definitely a great contrast to the Paella...
