Kitchen timers

Believe it or not I'm on my third kitchen timer in less than three months. Is it too much to ask that a timer counts down accurately, sounds an alarm that you can actually hear from 2 feet away, turns off when you want it to and maybe, just maybe, fall off the fridge due to a lousy magnet?

I turn to the SE community to help me figure this one out. What are your favorite kitchen timers and why? Thanks.

I like the Polder. It goes where you go so you can always hear it. Easy to use, and it hasn't fallen off the oven door yet.

sorry my timer is my microwave. thats about all its used for so I feel it needs to do something to justify the space it takes up ;)

I'm with huney_bumper - I use the one in my microwave, as well as the one in my oven. They're both precise, reliable and quite loud, too - I can hear them from pretty much anywhere in the house.

I use my oven timer too....

I'm SO used to using my oven/microwave timers, but unfortunately I now have both oven/microwave timers that have absolutely pathetic sounds (you can barely hear them if you are standing next to them, and I have a fairly spread out house!) so I am in need of a good timer too!

I'm looking forward to suggestions!!

My oven timer broke, microwave timer not loud enough. I bought two different kitchen timers and they were a waste of money. Not loud and only ring for seconds.

My solution is my polder thermometer/timer. I love it for always knowing what temp my food is, and the timer is LOUD. They have remote timers, too. Go to amazon.com and search for polder. Lots of choices and it's one of my 5 must haves in the kitchen.

I should have mentioned that my oven timer is not currently working so I do use my mw timer but there are instances when I need to time 2 or 3 things simultaneously (sp?).

Thanks for the advice so far.

I have a probe thermometer/timer from Ikea and it's been working great for more than a year now. It's still on the first battery, which is pretty good for about $7

I have a little digital thermometer that I got at Radio Shack - it has a magnet so it sticks to the fridge, it has a clip so I can clip it to my pocket or apron, and it is easy to use - not sure what it cost - maybe $10?

Are they still making the timers that hang around your neck on a cord? That would solve a couple of problems.

I've had Polder therms and when they work, they're great. I like the probe option - no guesswork for roasting meats and you can totally hear the alarm. Unfortunately, the probe and its cable are not dependable and I found it difficult to locate replacement parts. If you can treat it gently, a Polder timer will last.

I hate the #&@^@ alarm on BF's stove. It goes **peep peep peep** barely audible when you're in the kitchen! Forget about being in another room!!

I bought a cheapo timer 8 (or more) years ago because the timer on my cheapo microwave from college went kaput. Recently the cheapo timer started blanking out or quit counting down, I was just about to toss it in the trash when I had an "AHA!" moment and decided to change the battery. Works great. Has a loud, but not obnoxiously loud beep. Beeps for a good long while. Has a clip and a magnet. Has only fallen off the fridge once (when I was pissed and slammed it shut). Probably purchased at Target or WalMart for cheap.

Well, I found a great timer today at a hardware store. It's by West Bend and counts down in seconds, minutes, hours...has a stop watch, a strong magnetic backing, large digital display and a loud alarm.

Wish me luck with this one and thanks for all your great suggestions. I'll let you know how it works out.

it seems like cheaper is better :) i am a clock watcher and yes i have burned things when i get distracted but i break EVVERY times i have ever had within a week. i am more clusy then you can imigine.
