I'm off to NYC..

Can people give me their top 3 food related activities to do, I'm going on Friday for a week. I'm staying in Tribeca, I would be very grateful for any ideas.

I was in NYC for only a day a couple months ago so I had to really pick and choose what I wanted to do. I think it's impossible to choose just 3, but here are mine, and these are just the first 3 that come to mind.. you're lucky to be there for a whole week!

1) Levain Bakery for a chocolate chip walnut cookie.

2) Pearl Oyster Bar for a lobster roll.

3) Di Fara for pizza.

Red Hook ball fields, Brooklyn
Katz's Deli, Lower East Side
Totonno's Pizza, Coney Island, Brooklyn

@mrsbao - You watched Bobby Flay's Throwdown last night, too? :D

@themanchesterkitchen - get to SoHo. You will be able to visit and enjoy Dean & DeLuca's flagship store, Gourmet Garage and a host of other great foodie experiences.

Hit Bouley Bakery which should be quite near where you're staying.

Also, it's worth subway fare to travel to foodie finds - and, the most important advice, wear comfortable shoes.

Have fun!

Wow, I don't know where to start-
-Interested in middle Eastern cuisine? Go to Lexington Ave. btween 27th to 32nd street, great little hole in the wall restaurants and lots of spice stores
-I live in Tribeca, and one of my favorite things, is to go to the world financial center(great views) and walk south on the promenade on the water, end up at Giginos in Wagner Park, and sit, have lunch, and stare at the Statue of Liberty
-Lower east side, go to Clinton st. rest. and bakery(not on weekend) have lunch, walk south to Rivington, then make a right and walk to Economy Candy, and Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery, you can go to the Tenement museum
-Go to Balducci's on Greenwich in Tribeca, get a picnic lunch and go to Central Park, Then walk to the Museum of Natural History(westside) or the Metroplitan Museum of Art(eastside)
-Go to Coney Island, eat at Nathan's, go to the Aquarium or see a minor league Mets game
- Go to the Chelsea Market, ninth ave and 15th st, and eat at all the vendors there(it is home of the food network), then walk out on the 10th st side to see Del Posto,Morimoto, and Craftsteak
-Have fun!!!!

Wow! I was excited before, now I am desperate to go! Thanks for all these great ideas, I'll make sure I take lots of photo's for my blog!

Go to the Union Square Farmer's Market on Saturday! :o)

Take a cheese class at (or just go to!) Murray's Cheese on Bleecker or Artisanal Cheese Center if you're a cheese fan.

City Bakery on 18th and Fifth Ave to try their rich hot chocolate and pretzel croissant.

As I think while I work I'll post more for you. Have fun!!

@chiff0nade: I did see it last night!! But I would have put it down even if I didn't see it b/c I went to NYC in March and got that very cookie for myself - it was freshly baked and the best cookie I've ever had. :)

go to Grand Central Terminal Market and shop till ya drop; or Arthur Avenue in the Bronx and have the best bread and parm cheese you've ever had!

I second a vote for the non-Tribeca destinations of Arthur Avenue and the Red Hook Ball Fields. For number three...hmmm...Dim Sum in Chinatown? Table barbecue in K-Town? Tough call...

Definitely dim sum -- we love Nice Restaurant (yup, that's what it's called) on East Broadway in Chinatown.

Chelsea Market -- love it all, but make sure you get a loaf of semolina bread with golden raisins from Amy's Bread... it will change your life...

Visit Jacques Torres and have a spicy hot chocolate. The best way to do it is to go to the one in Dumbo and walk with it to Brooklyn Bridge Park to enjoy the spectacular view of Manhattan.

Red Hook – get food at the ballfields and then get key lime pie at Steve’s Key Lime Pies on the pier
Coney Island – ride the rides, play some games, get hot dogs at Nathan’s, get pizza at Totonno’s
Union Square Greenmarket on Saturday Morning
South Indian food on Lexington b/w 26th and 28th – my vote goes to Madras Mahal
Korean food in K-town – lots of great places b/w 5th and 6th Aves and 32nd and 36th streets. I like Cho Dang Gol
Essex Market on Essex and Delancey (Lower East Side) – lots of great vendors including Saxelby Cheesemongers
Katz’s Deli for corned beef sandwiches (Lower East Side)

Don’t go to DiFara’s – the waits are exceedingly long (2 hours or so) and if you’re only in NYC for three days, you don’t want to waste 2 hours in line!

I agree with the Tottono's/Coney Island rec but be aware that the Cyclones (Mets minor league team) season doesn't open for another month and a half. Also -- if you decide to take the trip to DiFara go in the late afternoon on a weekday or be prepared to stand in line for at least an hour.

Keep em' coming people! I'll be using this page as my guide on my good old iPhone!

Thanks again!

Don't forget the unbelievable steaks at Peter Lugers in Brooklyn!!

For Arthur Ave, I just went to Robertos and the pastas in particular were awesome. It was at night so I didn't get to explore, but I am excited to go back.

If are looking for wonderful sweets around Levain, GROM gelato is also a delicious, wonderful import from Italy.

I would also like to second Di Fara, Chelsea Market and a cheese course at Murrays cheese - all extremely fun. Katzs will also always be one of my favorites. I would be less excited by Balduccis or Dean and Deluca, as they aren't that different from their stores nationwide.

@mrsbao - After seeing that ep of Throwdown, I put Levain on my list too. That cooky looks amazing and to have people so focused on their bodies and health endorse (and create) these cookies only makes me more anxious to try one!

Also, if you like sushi - I think Sushi Yasuda has some of the best in the city. If you sit at the sushi bar when chef Yasuda is there, he will make the sushi the right size so you can eat it comfortably in one bite. And he makes his own wasabi! Yum.

have you come and gone, themanchesterkitchen? I'd love to know where you ended up eating.
