Grill Pan!
I found a random Williams-Sonoma gift card in my room and found out it's worth $50 (!). I've been perusing their website and found some grill pans I think would be awesome to get. Can you pretty much just use it like a regular grill? Does anyone have favorite recipes they use a grill pan for? I'd love to have them! (Note: I'm a vegetarian) Thanks!

I've got a lodge cast iron grill pan and it lives on my stove. Wonderful for doing veggies! there is nothing like purged and grilled eggplant steaks! If you get one, make sure its big enough for your needs, and I guarantee you wont regret it!

I got a great deal on a non-stick Calphalon grill pan a few years ago, but I probably don't use it as much as I should -- mainly burgers and steaks. Mine's square-shaped, which I think lets you fit more on it.
I know a lot of grill pans now are including a rectangular "bacon press" type thing that effectively turns the pan into a panini press -- I think that's cool. It might also help to get pretty grill marks on your veggies.

I used to have a rectangular cast iron grill that straddled two burners. The flip side was flat for griddle stuff like pan cakes. I used the grill side once for grilling a couple of flank steaks and they turned out marvelous. The only problem was the smoke from the marinade burning in the run-off channels. And cleaning it was a hassle 'cuz it was heavy and cast iron and I didn't know what I was doing.
For grilling veggies though, I could see a grill pan being a nice thing to have. I don't think it replaces a grill in terms of flavor, but it is nice for getting those grill marks.

I have a nonstick grill pan that I used to use more than I do now. What stopped me from using it as much was getting a george foreman. I grill all kinds of things on the george foreman- everything from panini sandwiches, meat, veggies.....

I have a cast iron grill pan. It has a designated burner. Pre-heating takes a minute, but I love it. I'll preheat while making eggs to char toast or grill anything or even to reheat pizza (love that crunchy bottom).
Be sure you have very good ventilation. They definitely smoke. I don't have an exhaust fan (at all) so I have to put a regular fan behind it to blow smoke out the window. Fortunately there's a window behind the range, otherwise, I don't know what I'd do.
