get those seeds out!
I'm using a great raspberry jam as a filling for a birthday cake. my problem is the seeds in the jam- I certainly don't want the seeds in the cake, but I don't have a seive or fine strainer. could I melt the jam down and pour it through cheesecloth? should I just run it in my food processor? any ideas?

A food processor will not get the seeds fine, and will just leave a mess like sand in your jam.
Heating and straining may work okay, but you will not get quite the same consistency back to the jam once it cools again, it will be thinner and a bit runnier. (But may work enough for what you need.)
Can you grab a sieve from a local store (like walmart or even a grocery) if there is time? If you can that really is the best way (but I don't know if you have time/available stores nearby/the way to the store)
Clean window screen works too if you happen to have any. I used my flower-drying rack once in a pinch when my strainers were still in moving boxes.

To be honest, I think anything you do to the jam will ruin what you like so much about it and you're better off getting a seedless kind--within the context of a cake a different brand might even taste better,

I agree with the buy seedless suggestion.
