Delicious and family-friendly in DC?

We're headed to DC for the weekend to visit friends with a beautiful 2-month old baby. Does anyone have any family-friendly restaurant recommendations? We'll be staying near Eastern Market, but are willing to drive (or metro) to good eats. Thanks!

Hi Alaina, i've been to King Street Blues and can vouch for it's uniqueness and friendly atmosphere.

You should get Ethiopian for classic D.C.! I've heard great things about Dukem.

I would say that there is one place to go with our 14th month old, 2 Amys. It is extremely delicious, special in what they put on the plate, and there are plenty of other kids. It gets even a bit noisy as they move into prime dinner service. However, no reservations so if you don't time it well, it could be standing around for a bit.

However, when our son was that age we'd take him to nicer places that you wouldn't think would be good. Mostly because at that age they are so small, and sleep so much they are hard to notice. Pick a place that is relatively noisy, go relatively early, and places like Central, Brasserie Beck, or the like and it wouldn't matter much. We even went to Central two weeks ago with our son and they were happy to have us--or at least pretended to be since there were 8 of us.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

@Husband: 2 Amys is exactly the sort of place I had in mind. We all went there together our last visit and had a great meal. Will look into Central and Brasserie Beck...

Check out Hank's Oyster Bar, my pal Jamie Leeds' place.

If you've already been to and enjoyed 2 Amys, you should try Pizzeria Paradiso (either in Dupont Circle or Georgetown). [disclaimer - I work there so I have to admit I'm biased]

While my kids are both adults, I have plenty of friends with younger kids. I would add KramerBooks in Dupont Circle...good food and an excellent selection of kids' books. Also, we love Mama Ayesha on Calvert near Connecticut. We go there with friends who have a busy 3 year old...wonderful food and the nicest staff on the planet. I also think that 2Amys is well worth a second visit. I work around the corner from Dupont's Pizzeria Paradiso...and I agree...the pizza is sublime...but it is hard to pull a stroller up the steep staircase. If you're up in the Wheaton area, we love Paul Kee (Chinese)on Georgia Ave. Have a great trip!
