Cupcakes in LA

How about some great cupcake stores in the LA area? I already know about Sprinkles but does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!

It's not a cupcake store, per se, but Joan's on 3rd has some tasty cupcakes. They have a bakery and a lot of tempting items on display. It also seems they could do large orders. Check out the website.

I've heard good things about 'Leda's' and 'Dainties' (in addition to KateC's suggestion about Joan's on Third) - hoping to try them out this weekend when visiting LA.

ahh, for a good LA cupcake! Sprinkles is a love/hate thing - I love the red velvet, but not enough to stand in line. Love their whole package/presentation, though. Vanilla Bake Shop in Santa Monica is actually probably my favorite cupcake. Big Sugar Bakeshop in Studio City is my favorite shop to go to - the cupcakes are good, some of their other bakery items are fantastic, and the shop is adorable. It's also just down the street from the Artisan Cheese gallery, which makes the trip over the hill worthwhile.

There are pretty much countless places to get a cupcake in LA, but those are my favorites. Leda's never did anything for me. The one in Burbank with the cupcakes named/flavored after cocktails is meh. There's a place near the Westside Pavilion that makes very homemade style cupcakes, which are tasty, but it wasn't memorable enough for me to commit the name to memory.

Regardless, it's a fun quest to go on. Enjoy the search! Have a red velvet for me - I've been banished to wine country, where there is exactly one cupcake bakery in the county!

Crumbs is down the street from Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. No lines, and they
have much more varieties. Both have the same great (too much) frosting,
Not that I am complaining !!

P.S. My co-worker raves about Vanilla in Santa Monica, Although I have not been there yet.

I don't know why you would want to eat a non-Sprinkles cupcake, but if you had to then I, too, would recommend heading to Joan's on Third.

Thanks for all the great input-can't wait to sample them next time I am there!!!

Leda's is unique. Most of their cakes are minature (two bites), except for the kids cupcakes that are regular size - funny right? The flavor of the adult cupcakes are out of this world and often special like key lime and blood orange. The ccakes I've had from the famous Sprinkles were dry and not impressive to me. I think the Leda's cupcakes benefit from being smaller in that they don't dry out and most of them contain a small amount of excellent filling. Biggest negative is their new and extremely ridculously limited operating hours:

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday
Open for pre-order pick up only
Orders must be placed 24 hrs in advanced
24 cupcake minimum per flavor

Friday and Saturday
Open 10:30 am to 6:00 pm

Sunday and Monday
Closed

Thanks for the cupcake blog shoutout (I'm one of the editors). I live in New York so am not the person to ask about LA cupcakes but can direct you to the Los Angeles Cupcake Meetup Group (meeting at Lark this Sunday, June 1st, I'll be there too)
