Sparkling blueberry lemonade - my official summer drink!
And black bean burgers cooked on the grill, just because it will be grilling season.

Anything that can be cooked on my grill. Portobellas, seafood, steaks, burgers, veggies, peaches, pineapple, anything.

I've already started making my official summer drink (iced coffee). So I'm going to finally unpack our big grill (we moved into our house on the New Year's Eve, and still have plenty of unpacked boxes with all kinds of forgotten treasures) and grill everything in sight! Sure, we have an indoor grill and have been using it, but it's not nearly the same.

All I can say is--there better be some goooood corn on the cob available. They have some at the grocery stores now, but it was awful. It's not summer for me without some fresh, sweet corn :)

I'm going to hit the Union Square Greenmarket at least once a week to fill a canvas bag with green beans, corn, tomatoes, arugula, berries, peaches, radishes, carrots, and herbs - whatever is in season. Then I'll take it all home and lay it on the counter to admire my fresh vegetables and figure out how to fit them all into a giant salad.

During the 4 painful months of sun and heat, it's a time of mourning for me as I lament over the fall and winter. It's probably the reason why I don't like spring. It reminds me that summer is fast approaching. This year is better; spring has lasted longer than the usual 3 weeks with frost just a few days ago. :)
Fruits and veggies I do look forward to coming into season are corn, cherries, peaches, tomatoes, and watermelon.

Cassaendra, where do you live? I have a similar sense of dread at the thought of summer: 20 days to go but its already settled into the 90s around here (Texas). And I do prefer the fall/winter, even after living through real winters up north.
We live in an apartment, which means grilling is way more trouble than we can be bothered with. So summer means pulling out the little electric countertop appliances because they don't heat up the kitchen so much. The contact grill, rice cooker, and my beloved electric skillet will see some serious action, as will my spiffy new salad spinner. And maybe I will finally learn how to properly steam veggies in the microwave.
I've already had a decent watermelon, but the corn is still about 50-50 hit and miss.
I know what's exciting me, though: we might be moving into a house in August, in which case I will have an autodidactic crash course in grilling.

With last week's evening temps in the 40's and not much sunshine, I can't believe that summer is really that close! We finally have warmer weather and sun, but apparently now the conditions are ripe for tornadoes! jeez! We had 3 reported tornados touch ground two days ago, what a mess, flash floods, hail, winds, rain, the whole nine yards.
My baby arugula have all been pounded to death with hail and torrential rain...that's what I was looking forward to, my first harvest of arugula...oh well, it was a crap shoot anyway wether my black-thumb or the critters were gonna get them first...incredibly the romaine looks better than ever.

I hate summer in Southern California as it is just way too hot for me but I love summer produce. An the other hand I love summers in Lake Tahoe (my second home) and the gorgeous sunsets and the terrific farmers market.
To ring in the first days of summer, Burrata cheese with homegrown tomatoes, fresh grown basil and a great quality olive oil, rustic french baguette, wine and bbq white meat peaches for dessert. Great meal on a 100 degree day.

I consider the start of summer to be Memorial Day. We celebrated with grilled shish kabobs - hunks of marinated sirloin skewered with peppers, vidalia onions, mushrooms, zucchini, yellow squash and cherry tomatoes. Mmmm! The grilled fresh veggies were wonderful!

it's Summer in Puerto Rico already... and I promise to break out my new Le Creuset grill pan I've had for the last year... it was too expensive to keep adoring in its packaging!!!!
