What's Italian for ice cream (US style, not gelato)?

Anybody know what Italians call American-style ice cream? The restaurant I work at got bought and turned into an Italian place, and we're keeping the old ice cream, but we want to call it something Italian on the menu, and it's not really gelato, is it?

In Italy everything ice cream-like is generically called gelato, including the pre-packaged cones, etc., in the frozen section. If it's the handmade, traditional kind that you're thinking of, it's often labeled "gelato artigianale."

The only thing I can think of that I've had which was creamy but was not gelato is cremolata. It was a very creamy "flavor" of Italian Ice and it was out of this world. I used to get it at Savarese in Brooklyn.

Are you trying to make up a word?

@wookie: If so, name it gelatte. lol
I know gelato americano means sundae, but literally translated, fits right into your description.

when in doubt pull Neopolitan out. This is the word which means itailan something or other. When I was a kid a carton of ice cream vanilla-chocolate and strawberry was called neopolitan.
Call it neopolitan ice cream and bingo it could be anything but it sounds italian.

Neapolitan means "from Napoli". Neapolitan ice cream was an Americanized version of spumoni.
Nope, not trying to make up a word, necessarily, just trying to find something that would work in the context. Personally, I think it's ridiculous, but it's what the boss wants.
I'm going to suggest "Gelato Americano," but I doubt it will go over well.
