What did you have for dinner?

Chances are if I know you well enough to be comfortable around you, I'm going to ask you what you ate that day. My boyfriend used to think it's weird (so did everyone else), but I think they've grown accostomed to it. I'm a total foodie and I love hearing about what people eat on a daily basis. It's especially interesting if they eat things that I've never had or have never made.

Last night I had roasted chicken that was rubbed with dill butter, as well as tons of roasted veggies like asparagus, leeks, potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic.

So, what did you have for dinner last night?

When I am in a mood, I generally ask ANYONE that is around me..."so, if you were going to be dinner, what would you be?"

THAT being said, Jake spent the evening fishing on Mosquito Lake and I used that time to clean and throw away some of his packrat junk. Dinner for me was 2 hot dogs with hot pickles, sharp cheddar and yellow mustard. Dinner for him was cajun tilapia and jalapeno cheddar pierogies, both of which I detest!

A whole mess of shrimp cocktail and a sort of bruschetta with whole wheat sourdough, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and some basil.

a cup of ginger tea and a couple of saltines:( SO had homemade eggdrop soup, and fried rice with chicken and shrimp.

This is a beautiful explanation about why I founded a gourmet group! It wasn't considered weird when we spent hours on end discussing food...LOL.

Daughter came to see me yesterday and I gave her a haircut. She began the visit by wolfing down 3 slices of cheese bread I made over the weekend (it toasts nicely).

Daughter's request for dinner? Chicken Cutlets. Plain fried. I never fry food. Oh well... I did a classic anglaise then pan fried them a minute or two on each side, then put them in a 350 oven while I prepared the rest of the dinner.

We had salad with vinaigrette (olive oil, sherry vinegar, mustard, S&P, chopped garlic) and fresh linguini (Costco!) with the quickest marinara I have ever whipped together.

We got dessert from the Mexican bakery around the corner. She could smell the baked goods earlier in the day and was really excited to go inside.

The fun thing about living at my BF's is that there is always someone around who wants to eat. When I dumped over 2 lbs of fresh linguini into the water, he asked, "Are we feeding an army?" A few minutes later, one of his best friends came by and after that, another 3 people. At the end of the evening, there was about a cup and a half left.

sweet sesame chicken wings roasted in the oven that had been marinated overnight in a sesame/soy/honey glaze; rice; soup (made with homemade chicken stock, daikon radish, and tree ear mushrooms); and stir-fried broccoli. pretty typical weeknight meal for me & my husband.

i went to the theater directly after seeing my last client so i had packed myself something to munch on the subway on the way over: a container of raw veggies, another container of strawberries, some nuts and dried apricots, and some cheese and crackers.

We had grilled chicken (marinated in tequila, garlic & spices) with mango salsa, Israeli salad and brown rice salad with asparagus, walnuts and oranges. I came up with the chicken because I needed to do something with the two mangoes that had been sitting on my counter for several days (courtesy of my in-laws), as I am not a big fan of mango "straight up":-).

i had a bad day at work, so the hubby greeted me at the door with a mesa fresca, and for dinner, he made grilled marinated spatchcocked chicken with orange slices under the skin from the latest issue of Bon Appetit), along with the polenta recipe from the same article. it was delicious.

That's always the question I ask, as well! Last night I had a spinach salad with veggies, a hard boiled egg, and croutons. Just plain old italian dressing on top. Then, I had a side of soy crisps (like mini rice cakes, but high in protein!) and a banana. It doesn't sound too exciting, but that's what you get for having to eat in the dining commons every night at college!

Whole wheat fusilli, veggies stir-fried in garlic and olive oil, and pecorino cheese, pretty boring and standard!

@french tart - gosh you are a lucky woman - my husband can't even make rice.

@mrsbao, my husband is a trained professional :) (he's a chef). and yeah, i'm pretty lucky.

I was tired, lazy, and in a really bad mood last night...so it was grilled ham and havarti cheese sandwiches.

We had grilled chicken, potato balls (a family friendly potato dish involving mashed potatoes mixed with cream cheese, green onion, and tsp of onion soup mix - yeah I know, rolled in eggs and crumbs and baked) and yellow beans that were to die for - the best we've had this year so far - imported from the US somewhere. And dump cake for dessert. All in all, not bad.

Tonight it's Ina Garten's white bean soup, crust bread and caesar salad.

Reheatead roast chicken, shredded zucchini pancakes, fresh tomato wedges with dabs of pesto, olive oil, grated Parmesan, and garlic croutons. Tasted just as good as it did when first prepared Saturday night! (the chick & zuke, I mean)

4-cheese tortellini tossed with pesto, sun-dried tomatoes and pepperoni slices. Love it!

I had the good fortune to dine at the restaurant where my brother is the chef. Didn't look at the menu, let him choose - my dinner was 3 appetizers: heirloom beet salad with warm goat cheese (lemon/thyme dressing); a single perfect seared sea scallop (maple glaze) over fava beans, peas & corn with bacon; and tuna two ways - confit w/potato, green bean & chili salad topped with raw slices of tuna.
My 8 year old had filet mignon wrapped in bacon with french fries and green beans (not the preparation on the menu, but all his favorites)

We had a potluck at work. There were 3 varieties of pulled pork, some brisket, Steamy Kitchen's firecracker shrimp (thanks for the recipe- they were a huge hit), hummus/tzatziki/baba ghanouj with veggies and pita.

A truly delightful combo!

PS. I served the firecracker shrimp with the recommended sweet chili sauce, but I also made the yum-yum combo of Kewpie mayo and sriracha as a dipping sauce. Too bad for the folks who don't like spicy food!

Wild king salmon filets, briefly marinated in soy, crushed garlic, lemon juice and brown sugar, pan-seared and finished in the oven. A salad of arugula, endive, sweet onion and raw mushrooms with balsamic vinaigrette. Jasmine rice. Provençal rosé.

Pasta with my spaghetti diablo sauce. Homemade sauce w/hot Italian sausage, cayenne and crushed red pepper.

We went out to eat pho last night. We also ordered 2 spring rolls and 2 summer rolls. We eat dinner there ~3 times per week so it's like walking into our [extended] dining room. :D

Chicken Florentine -- chicken breasts stuffed with spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red bell peppers and some thick shavings of parm-reg. Soooooo good. :-)

The vegetables almost made up for the two wedges of Brie I ate for lunch. And can you believe that I still wanted more cheese after that? I was super excited about the parm in the chicken breasts...I so need help. :-D

We had Hot and Spicy Beef over rice and green beans. The last time my husband made this was on our second date, he made it so hot that I thought I was going to die, this time it really wasn't spicy at all. So I think we will have to prepare again and find the happy medium between the two.

i want french tart's dinner, that sounds yummier than mine.

i had quiche with asparagus, mushrooms and goat cheese.

sweet and smoky bison sausage removed from casings, cooked in skillet with broccoli florets then tossed with whole-wheat pasta. very tasty. also a salad to start made with spinach, carrots, yellow pepper, green onion and radish.

I made fondue and had french bread, blanched broccolli, and cubes of ham to dip accompanied by grapes and strawberries.

i had kamut spaghetti with tomato sauce... A few tomatoes around as a "salad".

Toad-in-the-hole with onion gravy... 'twas very good.

I ask people this question constantly. They just don't understand.

Last night, we had a panzanella with apples, fennel and greens. We also had some scallops with prunes, wrapped in peppered turkey bacon and then baked until they were almost burnt. Yummy!

Daube made with lamb neck and orange peel, basically from Les Halles book but used red wine instead of white. Mashed potatoes, bibb lettuce with blood oranges, radishes, and vinaigrette.

Also, half a box of Whoppers and half a box of CheezIts. We rented Cloverfield. It was terrible.

bitchincamero and renzata, I would like to make reservations at your house(s) next week for dinner, and also subscribe to your newsletter(s).

Chicken cutlet on whole grain bread with mustard tomato an cucumbers chocolate pudding an a nice hot cup of vanillia chai tea

Ha! Thanks :)

I live in Miami, so maybe next time you're down here!

Strawberry and arugula salad with blue cheese, toasted pinenuts and a honey citrus vinaigrette, Onion bisque and Seared scallops. Yes, that's right, we ate out ;-D. Happens often. Hey, with my short-term memory challenges, I am just happy I remembered!

salad w/ shaved bell pepper, radishes, scallions, bibb lettuce w/ sheeps milk yogurt/thyme dressing and skinny asparagus spears sauteed with slivered garlic and jalepenos. also, a glass of passover coke.

I cook dinner twice a week for daughter and her hubby.....at her request, we had "Mahogany Broiled chicken with Cilantro Chimichurri".This was first place winner in 2005 National Chicken Cooking Contest. Served with baked sweet potatoes. Recipe available at: www.chickencookingcontest.com

Easy to make and delicious, but recipe is not well written.

BBQ chicken pizza
Crust was made with whole wheat baking mix and water, the topped with a little olive oil and baked 'til just golden. Then I topped it with homemade BBQ sauce, homemade roasted chicken, mushrooms, olives, white cheddar and prosciutto bits on top. I served it with a side of steamed broccoli.

GF was getting her hair cut after work, and would thus be home at no definate time, so I wanted to make something I could throw together quickly.

Fried Rice!

I made Roasted chicken marinated in five mustards (the number of mustards we happen to have in the fridge), a little ww vin, and honey, served over and arugula salad (w/soy-honey viniagrette) and topped with roasted walnuts, mustard-marinated cranberries and edamame beans (for strength).

Last night, I poached some orange roughy in salsa verde, shredded some cabbage, chopped some scallions and cilantro, crumbled a chunk of queso cotija, toasted some corn tortillas and we had fish tacos. With refritos covered in cheese. It was so tasty.

Tonight, it's stuffed shells baked with marinara.

Processed PB&J on whole grain bread and an orange. Hurray college.

I definitely think the same way! I love hearing about what people have eaten throughout the day. I cooked dinner for my family last night and I made filet mignon w/ truffled ragout, tomato-basil bruschetta, fava bean/ricotta bruschetta, arugula salad w/ mustard viniagrette, roasted asparagus w/ parmesan, and a strawberry country cake.
For lunch, I made the Asian noodle salad that the Pioneer Woman posted on her website. (oops, that has nothing to do w/ dinner :D )
