Take it with you?

We've recently moved to California from the Gulf Coast. The one restaurant we would have taken with us when we moved was this tiny little burger shack called Flamingo Joe's (Panama City Beach, FL.) He uses whole wheat buns, fresh leaf lettuce, makes his own "secret sause" and salsa, the grouper is always fresh, no pre-fab patties, and the best salads anywhere. What about you? What restaurant would you take with you if you had to move far, far away?

yin yankee. it's in annapolis, maryland. i long for their House of Yang Crab Soup. prior to us moving away, we tried to bribe someone who worked there for the recipe, but got a fragmented list of "possible things" which "might" be in it.

i also miss middleton's tavern (also in annapolis), for oyster shooters.

we ain't got that kinda thing in atlanta.

When we moved to PA from ME, The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport. The BEST lobster and clam rolls! I am really jonesing!!

We're looking at moving from San Francisco to Virginia and we'd like to take Chenery Park and (after a lengthy visit Friday evening) Sebo. A lot.

When I moved from Tennessee to Ohio, Whitt's BBQ...

When I moved from Ohio back to TN...Montgomery Inn and Grande Finale

When I moved to NC from TN, The Bound'ry and Mario's.

When I moved from NC to FL, 42nd St. Oyster Bar, Michael Dean's, and Blue Fin (which is now closed) :(

@ French Tart...Did you know Riordan's closed ? I would do anything for their crab dip ...mmmmmm.

When I moved from the Los Angeles area to Arizona (but have since moved back), I would have loved to take Sutha, a whole in the wall thai place here in L.A. They have this basil garlic chicken that is out of this world. Plus, they have the best pad thai I've ever eaten. There's also this Chinese deli that I used to eat at all the time in high school, but don't visit as much anymore. It was called Mr. Fat Wok and it had the weirdest combinations of food, but it was so ridiculously delicious and bad for you. Fried eggs on EVERYTHING. Even though I stopped frequenting the place, I often craved it when I moved to the middle of nowhere in AZ.

@Pumpkin... ever eat at El Tepeyac in Boyle Heights? When I finally leave So Calif, that'll be the one I wish I could take.

Too many restaurants I'd like to drag here...

Cleveland has a nice variety of restaurants from all corners of the globe, but it lacks a deep selection of solid restaurants; Japanese in particular. There is only one Japanese restaurant worth going to out of probably 20+.

Anyway, I'd have to say I'd love to have Sunrise Restaurant in Honolulu here. I can't remember the name of the Okinawan restaurant my family took me to numerous times when I visited them in Okinawa, but the food at Sunrise is really close.

i haven't lived in chicago since 1975, but i still miss pizzeria due and walker brothers pancakes. i also miss the cheese board and nabolom bakery in berkeley something terrible here in new york.

@ hammondcheese: I would always go to Riordan's after a flight. I was so sad when they closed!

I'd like to take the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, thank you very much.

But seriously, I desperately need good pizza down here (I'd probably bring DiFara's or Luzzo's for pies as well as Muzzarella Pizza for late night slices - I can't stand that there's not a single decent place near me at which I can get a slice!) and I also need a good bagel - I'll bring Ess-a-bagel for that.

I'd also bring Pongal or Saravanaas for South Indian and Devi for North Indian, Spripraphai and Klong for authentic and modern Thai, respectively, Max, Supper, Falai, and Frankie's 457 for Italian, and El Maguey y La Tuna for Mexican. Oh, and the arepa lady from Roosevelt Ave in Queens (for arepas, obviously.) AND I'd bring wd-50 for Alex Stupak's desserts, and either Sascha Petraske (Milk and Honey, Little Branch) or Eben Freeman (formerly wd-50, now at Tailor) for cocktails. Oh, oh, can I also bring Jacques Torres to be my personal chocolatier?

Maybe I should just move back to NYC. Sigh.

@cybercita. I would give anything to bring cheeseboard to new york... I know we have tons of amazing cheese stores and pizza places here but there is still nothing like cheeseboard.

That said, I wouldn't mind bringing much of shattuck to NYC with Milano Gelato and, of course, Chez Panisse.

@hammondcheese: dammit, i had no idea that Riordan's closed. but hey, i've been told that they opened a starbucks down there. that's the one thing i'm glad i wasn't around to see happen.

@rocky -- i miss their baguettes!

Ted's Hot Dogs.....charcoal broiled with the best crispy/greasy onions rings in the world! I would definitely miss that!
