Sexiest/ most romatic food
Apparently, I need a man in my life. First, the Mario dream, and now the thoughts about sexy food.
I had a great time (many years ago) with a guy and a grapefruit. Grapefruit was always too bitter for me, but the guy I was dating introduced me to peeling and removing all membrane, and just eating the jewley pods. Mmm, yummy.
Anybody else? Perky?

This doesn't sound sexy in theory, but beef stew is a sexy food in my book. Not because I have some beef fetish, but because it's the first meal I cooked for my boyfriend. He's a Southern boy so stew and cornbread is his favorite meal ever and I wanted to make him the best beef stew he'd ever had, but I started cooking dinner at 6 p.m. ... and it was a three hour recipe. He was a good sport, but got really hungry halfway through. In the kitchen while I was chopping vegetables and browning meat, he was standing next to me kissing me and my neck and other lovely places and he also fed me some god awful mini pizza rolls that he heated up in the oven to hold him over until dinner time. It was a good night and one that in his mind, solidified my cooking abilities because he really does consider it the best beef stew he's ever had. An entire bottle of red wine never hurt anybody, especially not when it's in their stew.

Awww, sweet story, PumpkinBear.
See, anything can be romantic!
Kerosena at 12:29AM on 04/12/08
I mentioned this one other time. It was my childhood sweetheart 30+ years later, snowed in for 3 days with no power, no water, no heat. Pork chops cooked on top of a kerosene heater. They turned to rubber. It was funny and more romantic than you can ever imagine. It's never just the food, but who you are sharing it with and what's in your heart. He is still in my heart and I'm considering letting him back in my life. Stay tuned.

Oh, sh*&%#, Perky, I heard this story before. But I never heard the part about you letting him back! Is he worth it? Cuz if he's not, I swear I'll break his toes. He better be good to you. Is he ready for it?
Kerosena at 12:38AM on 04/12/08
I would say for me, something sweet and creamy like creme brulee or cheesecake, but that's not fair because I'd be eating it myself since SO doesn't care for sweets.
So, I truly would have to choose something we both love, so we could feed it to each other. We adore foie gras (guilty pleasure - mea culpa, please...) and the absolute best we ever had was the terrine at Bouchon, with toasted brioche points. Nuzzled next to each other on the banquette, playing footsie, sipping Sauterns, spreading silky foie on toast and just nibbling away as happy as two little pink piglets in slop. ahhhh.... thanks for the memory!
@Perky - we've been waiting for the update since Valentine's Day! What's goin' on?
frederika at 1:16AM on 04/12/08
Wow, you guys remember? I haven't seen him since June 4, 2006. How's that for exact? He is wooing me, but I'm scared. I turned 60 years old yesterday - oops - day before yesterday.....it's after midnight. I will love him until the day I die. He claims he did what he did because I turned down his proposal. I think he is a womanizer. Maybe if I wait another couple of decades he'll be too old to fool around? He has to prove himself and I'll tell him Kerosena, my new BFF, will break his beautiful toes!

No sh%&**!
Srsly, Perky, happy b-day. I feel like every birthday is something we have earned. Each laugh line is something special. Cuz really, if we weren't where we were in life, uh, we'd be dead.
Congratulations!

Happy Birthday Perky!!!
To me, the sexiest food is messy food that you eat with your fingers. There's something so basic and elemental about it. The most romantic / sexiest meal I ever made was forever ago. I was young, totally in love with this brilliant, sexy guy who looked like Scott Glen, only better. Oh my, he was something back then. We started with raw clams and oysters, moved on to this huge pile of shrimp barbequed in their shells. it was saucy and hot and buttery and delicious. We then moved to a plate of beautifully sliced mangoes sprinkled with pomegranite seeds and a dip I made for it with strained yogurt and just a bit of passion fruit juice. Lots of Foster's ale for the beverage. Not a vegetable in sight. I know it sounds a little twee, but all these years later, it's still the most romantic meal I've ever made. He told me that that was the night he fell in love with me. Awww. We were together for one good year and two bad years after that. Oh well.
So much about sexy in any form is related to who you're with. If I'd done this with anyone else at any other time, I doubt it would have the same impact. There was this guy who on Friday nights, we'd be all curled up in his bed, under blankies, watching Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, and sharing ice cream with a single spoon from whatever Hagen Daz container he had in the freezer. The most romantic thing ever. When we broke up (devastating at the time), I found I was unable to unable to watch SG without crying. So there ya go.

Oh I must have missed that Perky. I love tales of food and love. Snowed in sounds interesting. I once made baked ziti and chicken parm for someone I was wanting to seduce. I served it with a good red and he was properly pliant.
When I met my husband and we were dating my good friend said to him did she feed you yet? He said yes. He said wow too late for you now.
JerzeeTomato at 7:39AM on 04/12/08
Hope it was the happiest of birthdays, Perky. And I wish you all the best with this fella' . . . sure does sound like you are smitten. Continue to listen to your instincts, though, to protect yourself. Like Kerosena, I've got your back! If he disrespects you, I'll send bad ju-ju vibes his way.

Re: Romantic food. Introduced the pomegranate to Mr. Sus. Being half Greek, I loved mythology and pomegranates growing up. This fruit was alien to Mr. Sus, so once I cut one up for him and described the "Persephone in the underworld" myth. He liked the jewel-like appearance and taste, but did not like the white part of the seed nor the stained fingers - I finished it. Mr. Sus really fixated on the Hades/Persephone story, though . . . .
He briefly chased me around our apartment, claiming to be Hades. I would never escape from his underworld because I ate the pomegranate. What a goof.

Thanks for your good wishes and having my back, y'all. I've only been smitten for 55 years, so it's probably just a fling. ;)
Most romantic is food you feed each other. or cook for someone you love because you know they'll love it. Sexy is how you feed it to each other. 'Nuff said.
Love you all!

If you REALLY think about Eggs Benedict...two luscious milky white orbs covering a bit of pink meat drowning in a, well, suggestive textured sauce. That's not sex--- it's pornography!
bessfour at 5:26PM on 04/12/08
I don't think I will ever look at eggs benedict the same!
izatryt at 5:45PM on 04/12/08
I wondered if chicken could ever be sexy and then I watched yesterday's episode of Everyday Food. Stuffed chicken breasts sounded sexy. I think sexy foods are about mouth feel -- soft and gooey are tops. There's also the element of surprise and the contrast of textures. A firm piece of meat with a gooey filling??! I guess that's why I like the idea of the molten chocolate cakes I mentioned above.
Here's the chicken recipe:

Enjoy!

I honestly think that cooking with someone makes whatever it is you just made sexy. Nothing like being in the kitchen together...it's creative, relaxing, and fun-all of which add up to sexy in my book! At least that's how it is for ME.

Happy B'Day Perky! Love, food, romance. These are all primal needs.
May you have many years of many more!!!

NuJoi My daughters saw the same episode of Everyday Food and they
made me switch channels! Something about "stuffing the cavity" freaked them out. Hello, I have to say, I was right there with them. Just the thought of having to get into a "birds and bees" kind of conversation over a chicken breast was quite unconfortable! Smear your herbs, smear away!
donnie at 7:27PM on 04/13/08
While watching Every Day Food with my 2 daughters, they got freaked out
whilst she was explaining how to manipulate the chicken cavity and stuff it!
Never in a milion years did I think a cooking program would spark our "talk"
involving humans and their cavities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP!!!! MOM OF 3 PRE&TEENS!
THANKS MARTHA!!!!!!
