Please help me find caramelized onions in a jar

Does anyone know where I can get Caramelized Onions in a jar? They are mentioned in the recipe for Lamb, Olive, and Caramelized Onion Tagine by N. Lawson?

Does she use jarred ones in the recipe? Caramelized onions are reaaaaaaaally easy to make; they just take some time!

I've never seen them either, and grocery shopping is my hobby! Try doing a huge mess of them in your crock pot...you may want to brown them a little on the stove at the end, but the bulk of the slow cooking/softening could be done that way.

cook's illustrated had a great way of doing them partially in the oven. you slice them up and put them in a dutch oven with butter and olive oil, then bake them until they are softened and turning brown, stirring occasionally, then finish them on the stove.

They sell 'em at Target, under their Archer's Farm brand :-).

try Chefshop.com, they have them.

Ina Garten's food line carries them too - but they are pricey. I'd opt for the crock pot version myself (grin)....

Stonewall kitchen makes "oinion jam" which is similar. Not really the same thing, but I thought I'd mention in. It delicious on pizza (instead of sauce).

Nooooooo! in the time you took to write this email. you could have done it yourself. Take 2 red onions or vidalia onions, sliced throw them into a large pot/saucepan that already has about 2 tablespoons of butter and a tablespoon of oil (vegetable) nuetral flavored oils work best. and cook it for 20 minutes over medium to low heat stirring often. If using red onions you might want to put a tablespoon of brown sugar in the pot about five minutes into cooking to give it some additional sweetness. Also you can deglaze the pan with some vinegar when done to pick up those tasty little scraps at the bottom of the pan

Boars Head Vidalia Onion Sauce is similar to carmelized, and they're delicious

It's would probably be way cheaper just to make them yourself.

Oh, make your own! They are so easy to make, and keep about a week or two in the fridge, once made. They are also SO much better than anything you could buy in a store.

But... Food Guy In Maine is correct, though, about that Boar's Head product. I had some last weekend at a cookout, and they were, indeed, delicious.
