mac n' cheese recipes

the family is craving mac n' cheese. has anyone got a great recipe?

Martha Stewart's mac n' cheese recipe is a Serious Eats favorite. The Barefoot Contessa's recipe is pretty similar. And last but not least, Deborah Madison's version.

Funny you should mention it... my SO has been bugging me for the overnight macaroni & cheese that we had quite a thread going on a while back. It is Guy Savoy's recipe; it is unbelievably easy and, ironically enough, I just stopped on the way home from work to pick up the ingredients for Thursday night's supper. It takes gruyere cheese, heavy cream, milk and butter. Check back in the SE "search" for overnight macaroni & cheese - the recipe is there. If it sounds interesting and you can't find the recipe, I would be more than happy to post it for you.

Golden Brown Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

6 C. water
1/2 tsp. salt
2 C. uncooked elbow macaroni
4 tbs. (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
2 1/2 C. grated mild Cheddar cheese, divided
2 large eggs
1/2 C. milk
paprika, for the top

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan. In a 6-quart pot, bring the water and salt to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain. Return the macaroni to the pot and stir in the butter or margarine until melted. Add 2 C. of the Cheddar cheese. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs. Beat in the milk. Add the milk mixture to the pot with the macaroni. Stir until combined. Spoon into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 C. Cheddar cheese on top. Dust with paprika. Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the casserole is warm throughout.

Mmm!

Chew on That

Thanks, Alaina!

my recipe is similar to Hillary's, except that i put butter n'breadcrumbs on top before baking, no eggs, and a few other minor changes. it's an adaptation of one of the mac and cheese recipes in joy of cooking, and it's the ultimate comfort food!

Mac and Cheese

i've heard about stovetop mac and cheese, anyone have a recipe for that?

Unfortunately I don't have the exact recipe, but my best friend's grandmother's recipe is to kill for (yes, not only to die for)! It involves condensed milk and tiny cubes of good quality ham. Need I say more?

I've made this many times and it's incredible. It's atherosclerosis on a plate but worth taking your life into your hands for an occasional splurge. This recipe was shown on Cooking Live with Sara Moulton but it's not hers - it's from a restaurant called the Chat & Chew. Makes a huge batch - great for a party.

I love smitten kitchen's mac and cheese recipe. I used cottage cheese just like she did. Both my cottage cheese-phobic hubby and stepdaughter gobbled it up.
