Lunch at Whole Foods

I met some friends for lunch at Whole Foods the other day. Usually I get sushi and have to buy two and it's so expensive but this lunch experience was fantastic:

The calzones caught all of our attention and at $3.99 a pop, weren't so bad! I chose the pepperoni, a friend chose the veggie calzone and the other friend chose a pesto gorgonzola knot. We all bought some sushi on the side and for $10 had sushi and a sample of all three of the calzones! It was so delicious. I was quite full and in heaven.

And then we had some $1.99 gelato for dessert - their chocolate is sooo good!

I love the deli sandwiches. Ours are named after local places in Seattle. I love the Golden Gardens Veggie sandwich. Basically a vegetarian panini.

I had lunch there today. The prepared food section is quite popular, and the food looks tasty. ur Whole foods also has a smoke shop, sushi, gelatto, pizza (YUM!) as wellas a area where they prepare fish. I usually have a pizza slice as I only take a 1/2 hr lunch.

We were in Whole Foods today but didn't dine. I do love to grab something and eat at one of the tables. We scored some cool sausage (some of which went into the queso I made tonight), nice veggies... but I could not find Bob's 10 Grain Cereal! I need some to make a specific bread.

Oh god - their gelato is heavenly; chocolate hazelnut tastes like a high quality scoop of frozen nutella.

As for lunching, I don't usually lunch at their prepared foods section (pricey by weight) so I either get something small from the deli or I buy a small piece of cheese and a roll and pretend I'm parisian.

Oh and FYI, all their baked goods in the cabinet are wonderful and tasty, but at $2.00 each, not worth it... Look at their bagged sandwich breads section because they usually have a bunch of bagged up croissants/ the same pastries for less.

We went apesh!t there once and spent $40 on prepared food. We split up (not on purpose...a very bad thing) and grabbed stuff as if this was our last meal. When we finally met up, we laughed. My husband had one container stuffed with barbecued meats and containers filled with desserts and salads. I had a containers of hot entrees, desserts, and salads. We knew we could take it home, but it was pretty hilarious...and tasty.

The gelato 'bar' in their NJ store is Ciao Bella (which happens to be based here)...I'm just wondering if it's the same everywhere, or if they're selling different gelato in different states.

One of my local WF's makes a chicken salad sandwich with avocado and bacon on whole wheat. The other one doesn't add the avocado. The first one is much better.

@ curlz - union square whole foods has il laboratorio gelato, but they also stock ciao bella in the ice cream section...both are yummy.

i love the salad bar, but it is expensive and if i'm spending that much on lunch, i feel like i should just go to a *real* restaurant

Thanks for the reminder. Think I'll be going there for lunch Saturday, as I'll be near one.

I love the local names. The Austin ones are pretty hilarious (and the Austin store in general is gigantic and almost monstrously luxe). I haven't much liked their pasta salads to go or anything, but the sandwiches are good, the Indian food and sushi is good, and I too like getting a hard roll and something to stuff into it.

Yea the gelato section in Glenview (suburb of Chicago) isn't ciao bella but I did see ciao bella in the freezer section as well. I guess they carry local gelato? That makes me like them even more!
