Getting married Friday in NYC, need restaurant help.

I kinda envisioned leaving the Center Street municipal building and heading straight to Chinatown, perhaps to Nom Wah, then to New Pasteur. However, the witness-to-be demands something "nice." Can anyone suggest some middle ground downtown? And I mean downtown downtown...not Soho or the like.

I have no idea.....but Congratulations!

Whoa.......and this is the first we're hearing of it? That is a big deal you left us out of (sorry, preposition). Let me be the second to wish you hearty congrats and best wishes. And the second who has no idea regarding NYC restaurants. Be happy BaHa!

Congratulations!

Bouley or Chanterelle? City Hall or Tribeca Grill if you want something more casual?

Best wishes BaHa!

BTW, to your witness-to-be, doesn't she or he realize it's not THEIR day? The wedding day belongs to you and your spouse-to-be.

Sorry, I can't help on the restaurant front.

BaHa! CONGRATULATIONS!

Oh, she knows it's not her day; I just want the three of us to have fun. She likes nice; I like a slice and an ice. Boyfriend like me (thank goodness).
(Thanks for the congrats; we've been together so long we just decided to take care of the paperwork. Although I have to say that now that it's 48 hours away, I'm getting kind of excited.)
Anyone with suggestions, do bear in mind the it will be on a Friday, and it is already too late to make reservations.

Wow BaHa...CONGRATULATIONS!!!! (yep, no help from me either, sorry!)

Wait BaHa, why don't you try Churrascaria Plataforma (rodizio) on Broadway downtown in Tribeca? Even if you don't eat meat, their "salad" (with sushi, risotto and what not) bar is to die for!

Congratulations! Even if it is "only" a formality, it's still a really big deal. Count me among those who say shame on you for not sharing. Unless, of course, you only decided this on a whim... ?

Anyway. I can't help with any dining ideas, just warm wishes!

How about Landmarc? What time will you be dining?

We only decided on the date a few days ago; much depended on work schedule (and Rangers schedule) and such. Just told my mother on Monday, so was keeping no secrets!
Will check out your suggestions...

congrats!! also can't help you out with restaurant recs, but wanted to wish you well. :)

The time is yet another problem; I have no idea how long the wait is and so on. We could be out early enough for a late lunch, in fact!

Yay! Congratulations!!

Congrats!!!!!

I second Landmarc or Chantrelle. Or how about the Bubble Lounge, so you can toast yourselves properly? Or Bouley?

Have a wonderful time!!! Wishing you all the best.

Congratulations, BaHa. Do you want to eat schnitzel and pretzels and lots of other rich food at Blaue Gans? It's not fancy at all. The burger and the oyster pan roast are both good at City Hall. So are the french fries. Nobu for lunch is always fun. What about the Harrison? Is that open for lunch. Why do I think not? Oh, I have a good idea. Good Tuscan at the undiscovered Pepolino on West Broadway just south of Canal. Great bread soup and meatballs and cheesecake.

The Harrison is not open for lunch, unfortunately. Wish it were.

I do think City Hall might be a great choice. It's a pretty room, not at all stuffy, and the menu is straightforward and varied.

Ed, I'm off to check out Blaue Gans. I don't know how you knew that our witness is Hungarian! This would be a great fit.
Btw, I have a grudge against City Hall. They are not at all nice--in fact are quite condescending--to Restaurant Weekers.

And thanks again to everyone!

The SE Overlord knows all and sees all! ;-}

Apparently, Ed the Overlord (in a nicer, more Dumbledore-ish kind of way) does know all and see all. We agreed on Blaue Gans in under five minutes, a definite land speed record for the three of us.
Thank you, Ed!

Congratulations! Enjoy your "paperwork"! All the best.

I got married at city hall a few months ago on a Thursday (round 11:00 am) Was in and out in under an hour, though i suppose it probably gets busier as the day progresses.
I'd second Landmarc-- its the kind of place that will respect the occasion if you give heads up.
Best wishes!

congratulations, baha!

i've never eaten at blaue gans, but i had a spectacular dinner a few years ago at wallse, which i think is owned by the same person.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, go to One If By Land Two If By Sea.

One If By Land TIBS is absolutely the most romantic place you will ever visit. Tell them you're getting married and that you want the most romantic table in the joint. And have the Beef Wellington - better yet - have the prix fixe Chef's Selection which includes the BW - and feed each other the chocolate dessert plate. Then go make babies...or at least go through the motions.

Enjoy each other and Congratulations!

Thanks to one and all. Someday, I might tell you all about my very Rhoda Morgenstern wedding (bus downtown never came because of the pope; we forgot that we needed yet another money order; my husband [crap, I guess he is now] forgot to take off his sunglasses;I forgot to take off the ring he gave me two years ago so that he could give it back to me....it was a hoot and a holler. Dinner, recommended by Ed, was bliss. Except for when our witness kept obsessing about the fact that her mother's spatzle was not as light as the ones we were having...
Love you all, kids, for the advice and the support. Best part is that I got home in time to watch my truly beloved (the NY Rangers) win!!! What a day.

Sounds like it was so much fun! Kind of reminds me of my wedding :-) Congratulations again!!!
