Favorite "Healthy" and casual Restaurant

Hi,

Recently I had a friend visiting from San Francisco. All week she requested we eat and a place that had healthy, fresh food. I am a born and raised Northern Californian so I understood what she meant. I grew up with Deborah Madison in my backyard and the disciples of Alice Waters in my city limits.

Can anyone recommend their top favorite healthy-minded Brooklyn and Manhattan restaurants? I am not looking to break the bank account either.

Thanks!

Marlow and Sons and Diner in Williamsburg for locally produced whole foods cooked real well.

Seasons 52!!! I love their quail with sweet potato mash!

Good question!

I don't know that they set out to be healthy minded, but much of the Japanese home-style food at Hibino in Cobble Hill is full of fresh veggies and the most delicious tofu (I think they make it there), plus they have great sushi, and they serve an amazing in-house-blended tea at the end of the meal.

@jcrisco; Seasons 52 in West Palm??? My husband and I eat there whenever we head to Florida. We go at least once each year. That location, if we are talking about the used to be fathom??

@izatryt -- I actually go to the one in Orlando on restaurant row! It's surprisingly good for a chain.

Seasons 52? We are in Tampa so a road trip is not out of the question... Will look into that one!

I used to go to a place called Scallions in lower Manhattan that had the best "health" food. It tasted way too good to qualify as health food but that's what it was.

Also used to eat at a salad place in midtown (I worked there briefly - around 40th and 6th). I can't even remember what it was called but it had the best spinach salad ever.
