Fancy schmance food gifts

I was cleaning out the fridge the other day and I came across a jar of Chocolate Martini cream cheese dip. Long ago, our friend gave it to us as a housewarming gift, and my roomie tasted some on a pretzel and then left it in a far corner of the fridge. More recently, my mom gave me some sort of chocolate balsamic vinegar sauce. I'm thinking I might roast a chicken and dip it in the sauce, like the feast in "Chocolat."

My question for you is, do you ever get weird (or interesting) food gifts like these? Like prepared sauces, dip mixes, those bottles of olive oil that collect dust on the shelves of TJ Maxx? What do you do with them? What's the weirdest thing you've received? (Weird meaning interesting or inedible.)

My MIL will sometimes pass along foodstuff that she gets that she doesn't know what to do with. Probabaly the oddest thing she gave me was an opened jar of curry paste. A neighbor who was moving had cleaned out her fridge prior to the move, and gave my MIL a bunch of stuff, and the curry paste was among the items.

Tequila flavoured barbeque sauce.
I used a bit to make some pork shoulder. Never again, this stuff is vile, and has no real tequila in it.

I have a friend who knowing I love to cook and even more to experiment, decided to hit all the discount stores for food stuff :( I ended up with things like 3 yr out of date bottled jalepenos, and other things that I have no clue what they are or even if they were edible. Some had chinese labels with no english at all. Needless to say I thanked her and waited untill she left before throwing everything in the trash!

The weirdest think I ever got were chocolate covered ants. Serious. ANTS.

They weren't half bad.

The half that was ant was kinda bad but the chocolate half - pretty good.

My boyfriend's mother gives us different kind of hot sauces for EVERY gift-giving holiday, it's ridiculous.

Also, my grandmother's friend, who's the SWEETEST woman in the world, gives my parents at least one bottle of Asti Spumanti every Christmas, I swear there's 20 bottles down in the basement collecting dust. When I was sixteen my friend and I sneaked one to drink - the cork fell apart and it tasted like rancid apple juice. But of course we drank it all. Lovely.
