Do you have appliance covers in your kitchen?
I just renovated my kitchen, now having twice the counter/cabinet space I can finally put out a few of my appliances. I remembered there are appliance covers out there in the world and wondered if people still do this or is it more of an old-fashioned thing?
I found a website that custom makes them, they have a wide range of patterns and size choices, and even have a pattern of corks, that looks nice and would fit in nicely with my grape/wine theme in my kitchen and dining room.
Just wondered if anyone still uses them, or will I be trying to fashionably revive a dead horse by using them?

No way! I have named my KitchenAid's Willis (pro stand mixer) and Choppa (12 cup food processor) and I LOVE seeing them and their blue willow (color) beauty everytime I walk in the kitchen! I never understood why KA makes covers since I'd think they'd want people to show their goods with pride!
Besides I know that psychologically, when appliances are hidden, and perhaps covered, people are less likely to use them often because of the few extra steps it takes to set up, or perhaps take off the cover. And I can say I use my FP at least 5 days a week, and mixer probably twice a week because they are so accessible to me.

Oops, posted to the wrong thread! Meant to write that on the appliance decal chat. But nope, I leave my toaster out in the open. Any other appliance goes in the cupboard.

I like seeing my appliances in all their glory. Plus, I use most of my appliances at least 4 times a week. I think it would be a pain to constantly take off the covers and find a place to put them while I am in the middle of prepping/cooking/baking/whatever.
Perhaps if my appliances didn't all match, I might consider using covers for consistency.

Dust & grease catchers

I would be a "no" on that one. They are not functional in my kitchen. When I decide I want to cook or bake something, I don't want to have to uncover (or worse, unearth) a piece of equipment.
Hand to the immediate left = Kitchen Aid bowl in hand. At the ready.

When I began purchasing my KitchenAid appliances in 2004, I purchased covers for everything -- stand mixer, food processor, toaster and blender. I got the covers from e-Bay. I used them for less than a year. I've had two kitchens since then and those things haven't seen the light of day!
Just two days ago, I was cleaning a closet and had to find a new space for them. This was after they got booted from the buffet. The blender now lives in a cabinet, so it doesn't need a cover. The food processor and mixer are next to each other and I rather wipe the flour of the other appliance instead of constantly washing its black cover. I guess I could use the one for the toaster because it's the appliance I use the least, but I think covering one would look odd. I don't use them, but I can't bring myself to throw the covers away.
All of this also depends on the style of your kitchen. The more modern and contemporary, the less you want a quilted cover.

I am not a fan of the store-bought quilted ones, and have never seen any from stores I liked, but I do tend to cover the appliances I have on open shelves below the counters, because of dust/open windows/cats. I leave the always used appliances on the counter uncovered (mixer, FP etc.) but the lesser used ones (dehydrator/2nd & 3rd mixers, pasta machine, etc) get covered.
I had a friend of mine who knits make me large "hats" for the appliances by size. Like a winter ski-hat/knitted cap. They are stretchy, easy to wash, don't have to fit a 'certain' way and look kinda neat. She did them in my kitchen colors and are in some cases interchangeable if the sizes of the apps. are similar.
It keeps the ones I use less free of ick, and also hides the mish-mash of brands I have and makes my tiny kitchen look a bit less cluttered.

Absolutely not. Why cover up that investment?

As I knitter, I am absolutely tickled to hear about the custom-knit appliance covers. Machine-washable, I take it? Too delightful. That's a GOOD friend.

Totally washable, just like a winter hat! She used the same basic pattern, just made it bigger/wider as I needed.
I don't guess I would need/want them if I had enclosed cabinets for the ones I have to store (very small kitchen), but they do keep my open-air stored apps a bit cleaner.

I never cover them. I did in 1994. It is true the covers got dusty and dirty. Never again. I can clean the appliances better than the yucky covers.
