Dinner: Impossible with Michael Symon?
I juse heard that FN is replacing the old host for Dinner: Impossible, Irvine, with Iron Chef Michael Symon.
What do you guys think about this? I watched him a little on the "Next Iron Chef" show and I must admit that I really liked how he worked and his creativity. I think that he could be a good change for that show.
Oh, and apparently, it is going to be in an hour-long format now, too, for those of you that really like it. I think that I might actually try to watch this version.

My opinion is that they're replacing Robert Irvine only to make a point to other chefs. There's no need to replace Irvine ... the man can cook. Symon's good though, so all the best to him. But really, the change is entirely unnecessary.

I hope Michael Symon's reactions to every tiny speedbump are less dramatic than Robert Irvine's. While the change may have been unnecessary, it is refreshing to see them hold Robert Irvine accountable for his actions. However, this is not the first time they have replaced a chef for false representation of facts (remember Jag of Next FN Star--and his supposed war veteran status, which proved to be false).

@LunaPierCook; I agree with you. I was disappointed that Robert Irvine embellished his resume, but he definitely can cook and is very entertaining. I am still not sure how I feel about Michael Symon. He does not "wow" me and I do not see him as entertaining.

I am stoked about this as I'm an Ohioan and you don't see many great chefs coming out of the Buckeye State!
I was so glad he won Iron Chef and I liked how he remained cool under pressure there, I think he'll be a good fit for DI. I'll be tuning in this time around and look forward to seeing him more on Iron Chef.

I think it'll be an interesting difference.. Symon laughs a lot. Irvine would get all drill-sargenty when thing went awry. Or at least that's what it seemed like to me, the few times I watched the show.

I'll probably be stoned for this, but I think Michael Symon is completely overrated. If you have eaten at his restaurant you will find that the food is not complicated, technically or otherwise, and is a little boring. I have had meals from other chefs in Cleveland that blow him away and are way better chefs and are more interesting. For instance, Chef Denise Demmitt worked in the same kitchens as Symon and throws down a more interesting, intense meal than Symon. Irvine should stay.

BOO!!!
Sure the guy lied but he can cook and is very entertaining to watch.
This is like when they try and replace an actor from a soap opera. The replacement never can hold a candle (or saucepan in this case), to the original.

What credentials did he use to be looked at in the first place? and if it is the lies that were used, in my book thats fraud.......my resume states what I did...not what I fantasize..seems to me somebody in FN dropped the ball big time by not following up on this...Hey FN why don't you check up on these people..or do you like wearing egg on your face

I hadn't heard this news. I'm actually curious to see how it works out. I liked the premise of Dinner Impossible, but for some reason couldn't get past Robert Irvin's personality. There was something very off-putting about it to me, so I rarely watched. I like Michael Symon, so I'll probably check it out- though I can only take so much of his bizarre laugh.

I watch Dinner Impossible, and I am surprised at how many people here are commenting that Irvine can cook. From my observation, he does pretty ordinary things. I know he is under time restraints, but it usually isn't anything innovative. I think Symon may do a better job, and his personality seems to be better for watchable tv.

Wow, so is this why Michael Symon is NEVER on the new season of Iron Chef? The hubby and I were pulling for him to win NIC, and now he's never the competitor chosen for battle.
(grumble,grumble)

I think the hour-long format will work better...

I really didn't care for Robert Irvine much at all. But I like Michael Symon. But I wonder how good he'll make the show.
I started watching Dinner Impossible about a month or two before the scandal. I just thought that so many of the episodes that I saw weren't very chef-like. Cooking at a school graduation with some cranky, insecure cook who has to give up his kitchen kind of turned me off.
Maybe Michael Symon will make the show better?????
