What's your favorite warm weather beverage?
Still icy & snowy where I live...uhh, thoughts of sunny warm days & sippin' on something cool to drink. Iced tea or an extra thick chocolate milkshake would be my first & second choices. Do your beverages choices change with the weather?

It's this Mexican cinnamon rice drink called Horchata. It's so good, but kind of an aquired taste- it's a bit sweet for some peoople.

Of stuff I make, my lemonade, which I make with simple syrup as opposed to just dumping the sugar in, or iced Red Zinger. I think though that since I discovered Teisseire Fruit Syrups mixed lemon juice and flat or carbonated water, that will be my number 2 choice.
Other than that, either water or Coke Zero, which I love.
chisai at 6:31AM on 03/05/08
Same as any other day of my life...one of the following three things: Water, Club Soda and Seltzer. These don't vary much although I will admit to craving an ice-infused (slushy) drink once in a while during the dog days of summer (which down here in FL are MISERABLE).
chiff0nade at 6:31AM on 03/05/08
Thought I'd never say this but my drink of choice is plain ol' water right out of the tap. Second choice would be carbonated water and when I'm trying to conceal my devotion to water, I'll drink Iced Tea.
czken at 7:37AM on 03/05/08
I drink hot coffee year round, and seltzer ... but my cocktail choices are definitely seasonal. Love mojitos and margaritas in the summer.
SSMom at 7:39AM on 03/05/08
Iced coffee made in my Toddy maker in the summer, Iced Tea is year round for me but strangely iced coffee is summer only.
huney_bumper at 7:56AM on 03/05/08
For warming up, I like Earl Gray tea with a drop of honey. Or warm apple cider. For warming up and a huge treat, Jacques Torres' spicy hot chocolate, made with Mexican spices. It's sooooo goooood, but I have to share a cup because it's so rich, it gives me a stomachache (worth it though!).
CookiePie at 8:02AM on 03/05/08
Unsweetened iced tea, 365. I will order sparkling water when dining out. Not a fan of tap water. I have a filter on my fridge. I used to drink red wine after the first frost, but I pretty much stick to white these days.
crazyspice at 8:03AM on 03/05/08
Water is always my drink of choice, but I enjoy an occasional iced coffee during the summer, extra strong.
mrsbao at 8:06AM on 03/05/08
Blueberry vodka lemonade, pino grigio, and cold (not ice) water.
K at 8:22AM on 03/05/08
Water out of the tap is my choice at work, for me it's out of laziness and lack of equipment that I don't want the possibility of getting stolen from my (locked) office.
Otherwise, it would be chilled sencha or genmaicha all year 'round, and mugicha in the summer only.
When I am in the mood for something different and don't care about the diarrhea that follows, I'll order a green tea frappucino from the Starbucks at our cafeteria any time of year. It's a bit too sweet, but I've always liked the dry bitterness of maccha and enjoyed maccha desserts, like cake and mochi, because it's not traditionally very sweet.
Cassaendra at 8:56AM on 03/05/08
I don't know why I don't make iced tea in the winter, but I drink gallons of it every week in the summer. I also like to add cranberry juice for Boston Iced Tea. Lemonade is another favorite, as well as bottled water. My well water is nasty to drink. Alcoholic summer only would be frozen margaritas and gin and tonics. I enjoy wine year round. I'm experimenting with beer, and have some Killian's on hand. I may try some others (any suggestions?) and have a cold one after working in the garden or at a BBQ. Gosh, I just can't wait for warm weather!!
PerkyMac at 9:06AM on 03/05/08
I've been looking forward to the warm weather coming back so I can make mojitos. The syrupy mojitos that bars serve are way too sweet for me, but a mildly sweet homemade mojito is quite refreshing on a warm summer evening.
Zachary at 9:25AM on 03/05/08
I'm rather partial to a Pims/Gingerale when wanting a summer tipple; otherwise, water or club soda.

Non- Alcoholic -- Un-sweetened ice tea with lemon or water
Alcoholic - Moscow mule
lakeloverhh at 9:39AM on 03/05/08
@lake........what is Moscow mule? Sounds strong......;)
Is it even considered iced tea WITHOUT fresh lemon??? I like lemons with oranges too, and will use lime in a pinch, but it needs citrus!
PerkyMac at 9:45AM on 03/05/08
For alcoholic I love to make margaritas using fresh summer fruit like strawberries and bananas, mango mojitos with fresh mint, I've also had a delicious kiwi passion fruit mojito at a local restaurant that is amazing.
Nonalcoholic- half and half (iced tea mixed with lemonade) and slurpees/slushees.
KtMc24 at 10:28AM on 03/05/08
Alcoholic: a nice, tart margarita (frozen, with salt) or an ice-cold Corona with extra lime.
Non-alcoholic: a fresh cherry-limeade or a big glass of sweet iced tea with lime.
Hmm...I'm noticing a lime trend here... :)
sheeats at 10:31AM on 03/05/08
I'm with sheeats! Corona with lime is perfect for summer! Or I love seasonal microbrews like Bell's Oberon.
Non-alcoholic, I love iced coffee with cream, iced tea, lemonade or cold water with lemon.
LiveToEat at 10:45AM on 03/05/08
I'm an idiot - I completely read the question wrong! That's what I get for trying to answer a question first thing in the morning. SO -- the real answer is... water, unsweetened iced tea with a big squeeze of lemon, or lemonade cut with sparkling water. If we're "drinking," then I'm with LiveToEat on the Corona, or a nice crisp glass of pinot grigio. Sorry!!
CookiePie at 11:17AM on 03/05/08
Well...we don't have warm weather...we have hot as heck weather. Anything frozen...iced coffees...water mostly.
alyssazor at 12:12PM on 03/05/08
alcoholic
gimlets & beer
non-alcoholic
iced coffee, ice water, and the occasional slurpee.
sloppy at 12:37PM on 03/05/08
It's perpetual summer here in Miami and my drinks of choice are cold seltzer (by the case) and mojitos!
bitchincamero at 12:40PM on 03/05/08
Perky --
A Moscow Mule is vodka, Ginger Beer and Lime Juice (some people add a dash of triple sec or Grand Marnier) served on the rocks in a copper mug. It is very refreshing on a hot day. yum.
lakeloverhh at 12:53PM on 03/05/08
I know it's really summer when it's warm enough to sit at a bar or restaurant with outdoor seating and order a gin and tonic.
At home I drink decaf iced green tea, no sugar.
Kerosena at 12:58PM on 03/05/08
Water from our water cooler as usual, plus homemade green iced tea with lemon (sweetened with a bit of honey) and/or iced coffee (I usually have a pitcher of each in my fridge in summer). Alcoholic - a glass of cold Sauvignon Blanc or Grolsch.
brooke29 at 1:00PM on 03/05/08
iced green tea is delicious
Soup_Dumpling at 1:20PM on 03/05/08
Question;
Corona with lime juice. Do you pour the beer into a mug and have a slice of lime to squeeze, as you would for a glass of iced tea with lemon slice, or there a different ritual?
I want to try it next. Sounds refreshing.
PerkyMac at 1:37PM on 03/05/08
PerkyMac- We usually stuff the lime wedges into the neck of the bottle, and then stuff our thumbs into the neck and turn the bottle upside down to fully immerse the lime wedge in beer (this is optional of course, and best done when you're outside and wearing clothes you can spill on).
I love beers that are garnished with fruit wedges, like Corona or Blue Moon. It's so much fancier.
LiveToEat at 2:05PM on 03/05/08
@LiveToEat - I'm with you -- what is it about beer with a lime wedge?? It's so festive! I also do the lime-in-the-beer thing with Pacifico -- my in-laws live in Mazatlan, where Pacifico is made. So when we go down there to visit I love to have ice-cold Pacificos with wedges of those amazing Mexican lemon-limes stuffed into the necks. Yum!
CookiePie at 2:13PM on 03/05/08
@LiveToEat, so helpful......thanks! I'm afraid my thumb might get stuck, so I'll try my middle finger.
Seriously, aren't there some rituals where they suck on a piece of lime and then drink? Maybe that's tequila. I'm not much of a drinker and I'm trying beer for the second time in my life, so forgive my ignorance. I hope your reply was tongue-in-cheek.
PerkyMac at 2:17PM on 03/05/08
When you pour the beer in an iced glass, with freshly squeezed lime juice in the bottom and salt on the glass' rim - that's a MICHELADA. I learned that in Mexico City and they're delicious in the Summer or any day as a matter of fact.
But my hot weather bev of choice - has to be lemonade!!!!
MadelynRodriguez at 2:38PM on 03/05/08
For most of the year it's red wine or sparkling, but when the weather warms up, I'm all about the whites.
Good white wine--all last spring&summer, I kept on hand the 2004, Inama, Soave Classico...turned a bunch of red wine drinkers onto it.
A good Sancerre or Quincy or dry Rose...There's nothing like a day of shopping in the Spring and then going to our favorite brasserie for a cool glass of dry rose and some nibbles...
When "the girls" are coming over:
Margaritas--mostly good tequila, Cointreau, real lime juice, splash of sours, splash of OJ, shaken on the rocks. The slushy stuff out of a machine? I only do that if I know that is the ony way you'll drink it.
When the mint threatens to swallow a small child--hubby makes the best mojitos and juleps. I don't like bourbon, but I like his juleps. Actually he's converted several vodka drinkers with his juleps...
I have some friends (mostly older) who drink brown liquor in the fall & winter and clear liquor in the late spring & summer.
Wow--you all must think all I do is drink! But, I eat, too.
Non-alcohol: iced coffee, all the time.
Mornings are difficult b/c iced coffee seems to require more coordination than regular coffee.
wookie at 2:39PM on 03/05/08
@PerkyMac--it's salt first, shot of tequila, lime last. I haven't been able to do tequila shots since my sophomore year of college (((shudder))) Now, margaritas are a different situation.
Drinks garnished with fruit remind me of vacation...warm weather vacation. FYI we had freezing rain all day yesterday and today everything is coated in ice and the roads are a grey icy salty slushy mess.
wookie at 2:54PM on 03/05/08
Green Tea Chai
rabbitriddle at 3:05PM on 03/05/08
As long as it's cold, NOT sweet, and does not contain gin or t'killya, it's what I want. When it's really hot, I find sweet beverages especially unappealing. They tend to make me thirsty. I do like homemade lemonade, but only when I'm in the mood, and generally not when I'm really thirsty.
Unsweetened iced tea is my go-to (preferably without lemon, but it's okay if it's there), which I actually drink year-round. I just drink a lot more of it in hot weather. I also drink lots of cool or cold water and at least one can a day of Diet Crack. Sometimes DC is the only thing that will truly slake my thirst.
And, as a rule, I don't care for ice in my drinks unless I've got a straw.
LoCo at 3:14PM on 03/05/08
MadelynRodriguez, your Michelada is missing the key ingredient: hot sauce, or Tabasco. Without it, it's just a Cubana (beer+lime+salt). Michelada is like the beer version of a Bloody Mary; some people I know take the Tabasco one step further and put in tomato juice, too. Gross, but...different strokes, and all. :) :) :)
sheeats at 3:29PM on 03/05/08
Hibiscus infusion, unsweetened, splashed into a glass of seltzer. Rhubarb syrup (very slightly sweetened) with seltzer is yummy too.
Cathy at 3:36PM on 03/05/08
sheeats -- i've seen ones without hot sauce called micheladas all over central-western mexico (jalisco, nayarit, colima etc). not just tourist spots either, by people who grew up there. apparently it's a regional thing.
no matter how you make it, it's one of the most refreshing drinks in the world.
sloppy at 3:44PM on 03/05/08
Question for all iced coffee drinkers---I have never tried to make it---what strength coffee do you start with? Is one kind of coffee better than another--help me here as I'm not all that savvy on "coffee terms" ---like, do you start with a citrus (?) tone or flavor? Obviously, I need some coffee education--ha! I am a dedicated hot coffee person so I would like to learn how to make the iced version...
JEP at 5:53PM on 03/05/08
@JEP & wookie: we make our iced coffee in a Toddy (cold-brew method) and just mix with sugar and cream by the cup every morning. Toddy brewing is also lower in acid, which is nice.
My preferred warm weather drinks (other than iced coffee) include basil lemonade and iced tea.
I like a Pimm's Cup with ginger beer, too--but not this summer, while I'm expecting.
ricestein at 6:31PM on 03/05/08
I agree with Jep the Toddy method is the BEST way to make iced coffee!
huney_bumper at 6:41PM on 03/05/08
@ricestein & h_b----googled the "Toddy" & even checked out the recipes--thanks, I would like to try that! Does anyone freeze & make coffee cubes as an extra?
JEP at 7:09PM on 03/05/08

Limoncello! Any interesting ideas?
donnie at 9:20PM on 03/05/08
I've never made coffee cubes; the Toddy is pretty strong without added caffeine! (Toddy makes, essentially, a concentrate. If you add water, it becomes coffee-strength. But we usually add the cream and sugar straight to the Toddy, with the only added water coming from ice cubes. It makes a stronger drink, more akin to an iced latte.)
ricestein at 9:35PM on 03/05/08
Water - only Aqua Fina
Pisco Sours or Mai Tais
@donnie - This is really a great cocktail from Dale DeGroff
Lemon Meringue
1 1/2 oz citrus vodka
3/4 oz lemoncello
1/2 oz white creme de cacao
Shake well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. If you so desire, beat an egg white and sugar until stiff and float a big dollop on top.
frederika at 10:53PM on 03/05/08
@ sheets - I learned about micheladas like that in Mexico (without the hot sauce) and have had them with the tabasco shot too... but in the US.
But you know what... the Cubana name is soooooo appropriate, because I am 1/2 Cubana. I now like them even more.
MadelynRodriguez at 12:02AM on 03/06/08
Tinto de Verano. ... cheaper than bottled water in Spain. Mix equal parts lemon or orange flavored soda water with cheap, cheap red wine.
DaveFaris at 7:25AM on 03/06/08
I"ve made the coffee ice cubes with my toddy brew, full stregnth, then thrown a few in the blender with some soy milk and a little simple syrup, now there is an iced lattee to die for! I'll have to try your idea though Ricestein, I usually just make it with water and keep it regular stregnth.
Btw do you add anything to it? I add a little vanilla or cinnamon to it and it really amps up the flavor without being obvious.
huney_bumper at 8:47AM on 03/06/08
Sweet Tea!!! (I'm Southern) and mojitos.
http://nujoikitchendiary.blogspot.com/
NuJoi at 1:13PM on 03/06/08
For the most part I confine myself to water and coffee, year-round, but orzata embodies summer, for me.
mongoose at 2:26PM on 03/06/08
For me, nothing beats a cold Miller Highlife mixed with V8 during the summer. Great after a long run or bike ride on a hot day. Oh yeah, Highlife mixed with Mrs. T's Spicy Tomato in a glass rimmed with salt is good, too. i do not recommend drinking this after exercise; the spice will make you snarf it up your nose. This hurts. I know.
@ DaveFaris: Enjoyed my share of Tinto de Veranos and Calimochos (cheap red wine + coca-cola) in Spain back in 1997. And yes, these drinks were cheaper than bottled water then, too!
