snackies...

You're hungry, but you've got no time to cook...or maybe it's just too close to mealtime to indulge in anything big. You just want a little something to stave off the hunger. You want a little snack. A little handful of something that you can nosh on. What is it that you always have on hand that you're most likely to reach for?

Me, the number one snack would be breadsticks. And I think I'm addicted to sesame seeds, so that's usually what I make. Sometimes they're cheesy or herby, but there are usually some sesame ones in there. I can grab a couple breadsticks and walk out the door, or sit at the computer and crunch on them.

If I'm hungrier, or the next meal is a little farther away, I might grab a handful of nuts.

You?

Super sharp cheddar cheese. Since it's an immediate need, I slice it paper thin, and hit it one slice at a time. If I need actual food NOW, I do a quick quesadilla w jalapeno and cheddar. Yum.

An apple sliced and spread with peanut butter if I'm really hungry. Staves off hunger wolves for a few.

I stuff whatever I can into half a sandwich, actually, one piece of bread that I fold up. Current variations of said sandwich include dijon, sundried tomatoes and black forrest ham. Another recent favorite is avacado, mayo, romaine lettuce and provolone.

Peanut butter & graham crax or a Kashi Chewy Trail Mix bar seem to rescue me just about every time!

Almonds and (unsalted) mini pretzels! Always have both on hand, and I tend to mix 'em in a small bowl for munching. I keep a bag of the mixture in my car at all times, too--never know when the hungries will strike!

You are all so healthy!

For super quickie nibbles before meals, it's usually a couple of pieces of Thornton's mint toffee, black pepper kettle chips from World Market, pfeffernüsse, or unsalted edamame.

clausen's garlic dill pickles, or maybe a couple of saltines with pb and salt. on rare occasions some super salty cashews I roast myself.

@huney_bumper..........you're talkin' my language! Throw in some queen olives and let's feast! My favorite pickles. Can I have some pb&j on some of the saltines and butter on others? Who needs fancy appetizers?

usually it's a little bowl of my homemade granola, or some yogurt with nuts and freeze dried mangos.

my sweet tooth is insatiable, but if i seriously indulged it every time, i'd be in big trouble! thus, snacks for me tend to be dried fruit of all sorts. that, and maybe a few nuts or a small piece of fruit. carrot sticks and a dollop of homemade hummus are always welcome too!

I'm with PerkyMac - an apple cut up and slathered with a little bit of peanut or almond butter and I'm all set! Either that or a Lara bar. Makes me far less grumpy too...

I'm a cheese person too...alittle cheese....whatever is in the fridge....usually tides me over.

Usually cheese and crackers. I also snack on graham crackers, almonds, and apple slices.

Cocoa roast almonds (YUM) or sliced apple with pb

My go-to snacks during the day, especially if I've missed lunch (typical) and it's too close to dinnertime to eat much (usually)... a few pretzels, a slice of Tillamook medium cheddar, a V-8, some nuts or a few Cheez-Its. Or a nice glass of wine if it's even later. (Not food, but satisfies the munchies.)

Of course, there are many times when nothing beats a few spoonfuls of cold leftovers!

At night, after dinner, usually just before going to bed, a big glass of cold milk is my most frequent craving.

A handful of cashew nuts...or whenever they're in the house, a few Cool Ranch Doritos. And sometimes graham crackers.

I have 2 snacks that I always have in the house -

a mix of salty nuts, dried cranberries, and chocolate chips

any kind of cheese and fruit

my blog http://www.dinnersforayear.blogspot.com

Cottage cheese and wasabröd. Sometimes I throw some salsa into the mix. Delicious. :)

Toasted baguette rounds with cream cheese and Harry & David's tomato/ onion relish on top. Yum....

Almonds, preferably roasted. I get the gigundo bag of raw almonds at Costco and roast up a whole cookie sheet full to have at the ready. I love a handful of almonds and golden raisins. Or banana chips. Or those awesome freeze dried fruits from Trader Joe's.
For savory; cashews, sesame sticks, cheezits, pretzels, pistachios, a few olives or peppadews (my addiction) stuffed w/ goat cheese.
If it's just before dinner, it's the perfect excuse for a glass of vino, as well. Especially if I'm cooking - it helps the creative process!

Actually, a pint of Guiness pretty much fills me up. If there's one in the fridge I'd usually grab that before I'd eat an actual snack. If there is none, I usually go for a slice of rosemary ham or some old forest salami. I know, not very lady-like, huh?

If it won't be long til dinner, I'll have a glass of wine with some pickled okra or some olives.

Otherwise, I enjoy whole grain breadsticks with a smidge of natural PB, red pepper strips with a smidge of hummus, an apple with some Laughing Cow cheese, or cottage cheese mixed with diced cucumbers and Creole seasoning.

bumble bar any flavor... olives.. Jello

A cored and sliced apple with some sliced brie (I try to always have both on hand). Sometimes, with a glass of chilled white wine. And after that - who needs dinner?:-)

a hard boiled egg. I remove the yolk and fill the cavity with hummus.

there we go...i was waiting for someone to say hummus. cheese with or without crackers, also good. peanut butter straight from the jar. grapes. my roommate's oreos (shhh). dark chocolate. bites of cold leftovers from the fridge. chips and salsa. ice cream straight from the carton. chocolate milk.....
the question should be- what don't I snack on?

Mmmcake - your hummus and eggwhite combo sounds great!

In terms of my snacking, I don't really love "snack food" perse, so I usually wind up munching on part of the meal if it's cooking away. For example, if the potatoes are done, I'll munch on a few of them. Ha...
