Recommendations for favorite Bar-B-Que cook book?

I am originally from Kansas City, MO...now living in mid-Michigan and I need a BBQ fix! So, my only solution is to start making my own. I guess I should clarify that I am talking about smoky slow cooked BBQ. If you have a good recipe or cook book suggestion I would love to hear it :-) Thanks!

I'm a big fan of Robb Walsh's The Legends of Texas Barbecue Cookbook, though its focus is, as the title indicates, on Texas barbecue not KC. Mike Mills' Peace, Love & Barbecue is also a good one.

Peace, love and Barbecue by Mike Mills. I have tons of BBQ cookbooks and this one has the best recipes in my opinion.

I like "Smoke & Spice" by Cheryl Jamison. It has lots of rubs, mops and spices. Drop by your local library and look through the cookbook section.(641.5+ on the dewey scale!) It's a great place for cookbook junkies.

Another vote for Peace, Love and Barbecue. Smoke & Spice is a fave too.

Oh, I forgot to mention Ray Lampe/Dr. BBQ's Big-Time Barbecue Cookbook.

For ideas on seasonings, I particularly like Steven Raichlen's "Barbecue Bible: Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades". He has received some flack from purists for listing liquid smoke in a few recipes, but overall I believe the book is absolutely outstanding. However, there is a considerable amount of coverage on recipes from around the world. Just tossing that out there because I've read some reviews where people ordered the book thinking it was mainly U.S.-centric.

I'd recommend browsing through his site first.

steingarten suggests peace love and bbq as well.

I love Stephen Raichlen. When he does his recipes on BBQ University on PBS, everything looks so great. Even his sides and sauces are wonderful. See if you can pick up a copy of The BBQ Bible at the library to thumb through it or grab an old copy from a used book website if you're so inclined.

Here's another vote for Steve Raichlen. I can't recommend his books for recipes and techniques more highly. We have a huge library of BBQ books, including Raichlen's Ribs, Ribs, Ribs, How To Grill, Barbeque Bible, and others, but one of our top favoites is his BBQ USA.

Smoke & Spice is excellent also. The Jamison's really know Que.

There are also some great BBQ books out by Weber. The Art of the Grill, Big Book of Grilling, and Real Grilling by Jamie Purviance are go-to BBQ cookbooks here. The Complete Book of Grilling by Williams Sonoma is superb.

I live in MI also and yet another snowstorm is coming. So I can completely relate to the Winter BBQ Deprevation Syndrome you are suffering through. I forced my husband to grill (alas, not BBQ! but it helped...) ribeyes last weekend and he did a java rub that was killer. I'm having a serious rib craving now, but it definitely won't be this weekend. Although I love it when we have to barbeque in the garage in cold weather and my car smells like smoky pork for days!

Thanks to everyone for all of the great suggestions! I really appreciate it. Have a good weekend!

Here's another to check out: "Barbecued Ribs, Smoked Butts, and Other Great Feeds" by Jeanne Voltz. My favorite.
