Preparing a semi traditional Good Friday dinner - suggestions?
My husband comes from an interesting background of fundamentalist Christian believers of all ilks. One of the traditions that his family and organizations got into was preparing a traditional Good Friday supper, loosely based on a Passover seder meal - trying to replicate what Jesus, as Jewish person, would have eaten. I've done this twice now - fish, matzos, hummus, grapes, boiled eggs, that type of thing - but am looking to branch out and include some more traditional Passover preparations? Tell me, what did YOUR bubbee make?

Most Seder meals serve brisket, made with some kind of a sweet and sour sauce, or tomato based sauce with carrots and onions . I also serve a matzoh kugel (Cooking Light recipe) chicken soup with matzo balls, chopped liver, tsimmes, and I actually bake really good Passover desserts(macaroons,etc). If you can't have meat, you could make a whole salmon. There are also noodles for Passover to use for a kugel. If you need recipes, go to recipezaar, foodtv or allrecipes website. But I don't Jesus and the disciple ate brisket. Are you looking for traditional Jeish foods, or something like historically authentic Jewish foods (wasn't the last supper basically fish, bread, and wine?)?

Traditionally, Good Friday was a fast day as was Holy Saturday when the Easter Vigil was held throughout the night until Easter Sunday morning when one's fast could be broken.
I usually prepare vegetarian meals for both days but this is my own tradition. An eggplant tower of grilled eggplant rounds, Halloumi cheese, fresh basil and homemade tomato sauce is hardly penance - that's on tomorrow's menu and it's quick, simple to prepare and breaktakingly delicious.
