Milanesa: it's what's for dinner.

After reading many of your suggestions for my weekday dinners, I've decided to mix it up a bit and walk to the carniceria on my street for dinner tomorrow night. I've already decided to buy a couple pounds of milanesa, does anyone have any good side suggestions? I've been racking my brain for the perfect sides and I'm drawing a blank.

OMG...Everything goes with Milanesa. The sky's the limit. You can do rice, beans, yucca, potatoes - anything. It all depends on how the mood strikes you at dinnertime.

Did you decide anything?

Cheesy polenta? Interesting salad with grains, beans and vegetables?

Milanesa a la Riojana:

Take the milanesas then top each with...

-slice of fried ham or bacon
-peas and roasted red peppers sauted in butter
-fried egg

Serve with your favorite style of potatoes

ok...now I better hide before the health freaks come along

After living in Uruguay, I promise you that milanesa goes with absolutely EVERYTHING. Or nothing, I suppose, depending on how you look at it. And how long you have been in Uruguay. Eating milanesa every day...

Personally my favorite is probably with just a poached egg on top, sided by a sautee of spinach.

We always try to keep the sides light. Generally it's arugula or mesclun dressed with extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, lemon, and a few shavings of parm or just some mixed field greens. Maybe some tomato slices if they are in spectacular. The arugula salad with fennel and green apple currently posted under "Dinner Tonight" looks wonderful.

I ended up having the milanesa with a spinach salad. It was delicious, thanks for all of your help!
