Help Me Eat My Way Through Germany!
I will need so much exercise after all the meats and beers. However, if you have any favorite spots in Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Nuremberg, or Salzburg (Austria), let me know so I can at least have a game plan.
Danke!

I can't recommend any places by name, though I had some fantastic meals in Berlin a few years back. Mainly they were about ambience though the food was top notch as well. There's an article in today's NY Times that says Germany (with 9) is second only to France (28) in the total number of Michelin 3 star restaurants.

In Munich, make sure you get to the Haxenbauer, right around the corner from Hofbrauhaus (Where you of course should also go). Roast pork shank is the specialty there; it slow cooks for hours and is ridiculously tasty. Just make sure you go early, because they run out. Wash it down with a dunkelweiss masse, bitte!

i second the haxenbauer suggestion. if you have room for dessert, have the kaiserschmarren. i also strongly recommend that you spend an afternoon in the marienplatz in munich, eating and drinking at the rindermarkt behind the rathaus. if it's fasching when you are there, make sure to try all the different krapfen!

I can't remember places by name in Berlin either, but I do remember a really nice place that was located in an old wine cellar. It had an excellent wine list, traditional German cuisine, and a super-cool atmosphere with ancient brick walls and the booths were situated in little nooks in the walls.
The service was sehr gut as well.
I was there a couple years ago and I've been talking of it ever since! I don't know the chances of it; but if you DO find out the name let me know!
Viel glück! Proßt!
