Food Tattoos?
I'm wondering if anyone out there has gotten a food tattoo? I saw the subject posted here a year ago and there were some really great responses. Several people said they were going to get one. I'm a fan of unusual tattoos and have several that are science themed. My next one might be a food molecule - caffeine, capsaicin or theobromine (from chocolate.) Whatcha all got?

I'm inkless, but hubby (also inkless) and I have joked about getting "USDA Prime" on our rumps.

@wookie - Only you!

@crazyspice--What?! You know you want one, too. Let's all get drunk at girl's night and get tatoos!

girl's night + tattoos? I'm in!
missysue at 6:19PM on 03/19/08
@wookie - I love girl's night! My business partner and I were talking about getting fake tattoos and going to the office and telling everyone we got drunk and went for it! Funny stuff. We figured at our age, we wouldn't have to worry about the "gravity" problem. We are already there!!!! At least now I have a good idea for said tattoo. ;-D
crazyspice at 6:35PM on 03/19/08
@crazyspice--go for it! Make sure it looks like the USDA stamp. We decided we were "prime grade" because of our "abundant marbeling."

@wookie - A knee slap for that one!!

I have a friend who's in culinary school to be a pastry chef. She has a whisk tattooed on her forearm. She's pretty hardcore.

First let me say that I LOVE tattoos. I'm not a big fan of flowers and fairies, but I do love them, and my body is not exactly a stranger to them. Sadly, I've gotten on in years, so would feel a little silly getting one now, but if I did? I would totally steal someone's idea and get this: pig and carrot.
At least the carrot, but I'd like the pig also.
I have a friend who is a chef and he has a chef's knife on his calf. And I think it's awesome.
People, I'm way too young to be in this old.

I am inkless (for now). However, one of the guys behind the counter at the local comic book store has a fairly large sleeve tat of bacon on his forearm. It's pretty cool.

I'll get one as soon as I move out into university, probably a caffeine molecule.

And ethanol on the other arm!

And ethanol on the other arm! It's "balanced" then =P

I have an artichoke on my upper right thigh. I'd like to have a plum tomato (in memory of my mother whose favorite expression was, "A little bit tomato makes everything better") but I haven't gotten around to getting it yet :(.
chiff0nade at 6:06AM on 03/20/08
May I suggest, for you young ones who crave a bit of body art, to consider a grape or, perhaps, a plum. Then 30 or 40 years from now, you can tell the story of why you have a tattoo of a raisin (or prune).

My wife has a pommegranite, a saffron crocus, and the Osborn sherry bull. I am always thinking about getting the hornet from Mickey's malt liquor.

There's a pretty great flickr pool of food tattoos: http://www.flickr.com/groups/foodtatts
I love the tiny steak knuckle tattoo.
missysue at 10:54AM on 03/20/08
cherries here
zorengas at 11:08AM on 03/20/08
@grampart... priceless! You put my feelings into words, perfectly! I'm inkless, and plan to remain so. Even if I wanted one, I'd never be able to settle on one perfect symbol.
Besides, I feel plenty cooking-decorated... I've got many residual dark spots on my hands and forearms from the numerous burns I've inflicted on myself over the years (mostly from oven racks). Plus a nice one near my belly button from the never-fry-bacon-in-a-crop-top lesson of my early 20s.
8-o

Do any of you have photos of your tattoos? Or your hardcore friends? Let me know.
missysue at 12:29PM on 03/20/08
OMG LoCo- you crack me up. I was never thin enough to wear a crop top at any stage of my life so my stomach only bears the scars of motherhood...
And I share LoCo's connundrum about what symbol to get. I thought about a whisk or a set of measuring cups but who am I kidding? I can't bear the thought of being jabbed repeatedly in the same area of skin for even the shortest amount of time. I will probably remain inkless the rest of my life.
AuntJone at 12:50PM on 03/20/08
@LoCo - You ARE still in your 20's, right?
crazyspice at 8:07PM on 03/20/08
@crazyspice... Look. There's no way I can be both an OC housewife AND be in my twenties. That would be an oxymoron.
But, to answer your question... Yes, I am... as long as you divide by two.
;-x
LoCo at 9:13PM on 03/23/08
@LoCo - You and me both!!
crazyspice at 5:44PM on 03/24/08
A friend of mine has a half-sleeve of a sushi tsunami. Gah, I wish I had a picture of it handy. It's magnificent.
Narinda at 12:22AM on 03/29/08
my next piece (tatt #10) will be my fav fruit...a giant red apple on the back of my calf. i am also tossing around the idea of a portrait of st. honore and a replica of the sugar stage scale on a taylor candy thermometer.
ps-i finish pastry school in two months.
MsJones at 7:34PM on 03/29/08
Can you believe that earlier this year I had the USDA Prime stamp tattooed on my butt??? I was so shocked to find this website that mentioned that!!! I did the lettering in black because white wouldn't have shown up as well, but it looks great. I get alot of comments on it (when I choose to show it to certain ppl !! not just anyone gets to see it...unless I've had a few too many crown and cokes. I have other tats, but none are as much of a conversation piece as this one. I have some good pics, but I don't see where I can attach them here. oh well.
KWILLIAMS at 1:04PM on 11/06/08
I thought about getting a food tattoo for my first tattoo (inked in May), but I ended up creating my own design...which has nothing to do with food. If I ever get another tattoo, it will be food-related!
Btw, Flickr has great "food tattoo" pools, if anyone is looking for inspiration.
