Food Obsessed?

I'm a new member of this site and I have to say, it's worked out as a beautiful outlet for me to partake in my food obsession. My poor boyfriend, who's of the (stupid) opinion that people should eat to live not live to eat, dealt with my constant talking about food/recipes/food shows/menues for SO long. He was really good about it and never complained, maybe because my love of cooking benefits him so much. Anyhow, for all of you out there who love food and consider yourself to be foodies, who do you talk about food with? Do they like hearing about food? Do they share your love and if so, what do you talk about- recipes. future dishes? Has this site helped?

If I ask my husband to taste something between meals that I'm working on, he'll politely refuse and tell me he's not hungry. I inform him it's not about hunger, but taste. He doesn't get it.

I enjoy other people's passion about food and appreciate those who can express it well in writing. To make someone a special homecooked meal is one of the most loving acts you can perform.

I sort of brain-washed my husband to get into food and to quit smoking. He was a strictly (I mean strictly) meat and potatoes sort of guy who smoked (blech!). He's the one who cooks these days with an even greater appreciation for subtle flavors than me, and is always in search for new foods/recipes. I don't really cook anymore. I just come to the table with eyes bigger than my stomach any time I hear him clanging around in the kitchen.

Oh, and I talk about food with everyone. I even talk about food/read food blogs to my husband if he's watching a movie, playing a game, pooping, whereever. Let's see, my friends, my coworkers, in-game, online; really, everyone...

I grew up with a cooking family, both my parents cooked and were very good at it, then when my brother got into cooking, at age 15, later becoming a chef and owning a restaurant, before turning to a life of crime-fighting (Lieutenant in his police department now). I talk about food stuff with everyone in my family. My husbands family however, I talk about food, and it goes in one ear and out the other, which reflects in their cooking (if that's what you want to call it) :P

My husband's gotten better about my cooking though, he realizes that the "strange" taste in my food is called...FLAVOR.

My grandmother and her sisters (6 of them) used to sit on the porch and talk about food and recipes. What they had made, will make, how they did it. For hours talking talking. This is like those evenings on the porch with my great aunts and gram. "So you added some chopped onion to it?" "Yea I did." (everyone oooh and ahhhs) "It was good."
Fond fond memories. There is love in the food. Glad your enjoying our community.

I often regale Hubby with tales of SE. He rolls his eyes and says, "your food snob club?" That would be us.

My husband's always loved food, but really got into it once he met me. He's always ready to taste and comment on anything I'm making. He even refers to his "palate" and such. It's hysterical.

I'm a lucky girl - I can't imagine dating someone who didn't love food as much as I do.

When I met my husband, all he would eat was meat and potatoes. I still have a hard time getting him to embrace vegetables. But when I am in the kitchen, he is all about tasting my latest creations. My business partner and I are both food crazed! We have parties just so we can cook and eat. My husband calls my cooking magazines and my cookbooks my "porn"! Since I joined SE, I too share the stories and comments with him. While he is looking at bass guitars online, I am right here with you guys!

Funny, I just had a conversation last night w/a girlfriend; we were talking about guys we've dated, and I mentioned one from many years ago who could literally only 'make' himself a bowl of cereal. I said that we had a great deal--I cooked and he cleaned. Then I quickly said I can't imagine being in a relationship now with someone who didn't care about food/cooking the way I do! That's a change for the better, imo...
Food is about passion and lust and using your senses, and all sorts of other good things that should be in a relationship, as far as I'm concerned. ;-)

Everyone in my office knows I'm a foodie, and they always ask me on Mondays what I made for Sunday dinner. The primary link between me and the man I spend time with is food. I hate to grocery shop and his kitchen is poorly equipped, so between the two of us, we turn out some pretty good fare. If only the sex worked out as well, sigh.

It seems like everybody I speak with, family/friends/aquaintences/strangers talks about food!

Maybe it's me?

SB (beats talking about politics or the weather though)

@hatlady you have to work on that last part!! I used to work in an office where the employees would wait for my weekend leftovers. Once, I came into the office and I was admonished by one for giving my leftovers to another twice before offering them to someone else. Who knew they were paying so much attention!

@crazyspice: I am, I am! I figure one lust can translate into another -- and he is very sensuous when it comes to food, but his grill doesn't burn quite as hot as it once did (we are both middle-aged), if you catch my drift.

I don't usually talk about my food obsession...but it just comes out as a preternatural attraction to anything food related.
Movie night at a friend's house usually ends up with me making pasta or something in the kitchen or bringing dessert, which ensues in a weird discussion of how to improve a basic pot of pasta or the virtues of agar agar.

Food is just always on the brain, and I like to think that some of my ever-patient friends have benefited from me dragging them along on my trek to seek everything tasty.
