A surprise hit

My husband hates round steak. HATES IT. I wanted to get a frozen, cubed round steak used up so I decided to make it last night. His biggest gripe is that round steak is tough so I was bound and determined to change his mind. And I did.

Long story short, he loved it. "Remember this recipe!" He declared. I laughed at him. It was lightly floured, pan fried, then baked for about 30 minutes. No recipe needed. Served with mashed potatoes, peas and a respectable gravy (I SUCK at gravy, but this was actually edible.), it made for a great meal.

Have you converted anyone from "Yuck! I won't eat that!" to "Could you make that again?" Did you switch it up in a major way or just prepare it in a manner that made it more palatable?

@AuntJone - I am in the same "gravy boat"! Maybe you can help me convince LoCo to do a YouTube video and teach all how to make perfect gravy!!

Broccoli - The hubs will now eat it because I grill it! After I steam it a little and give it an ice bath, I marinate it in olive oil, fresh lemon juice, garlic and a few of whatever herbs I happen to have on hand. Then onto the grill for some extra flavor. He used to complain if I served it for dinner. Not anymore!

When I first met my husband he would not eat any braised greens (specifically collard greens). He remembered the smell of the greens cooking from his childhood, apparently when they are overcooked, they release a sulfur smell. So one day, while planning a bbq, I casually mentioned that I found it surprising he wouldn't even try greens since he was such a gourmet (yeah, stroke the ego). I made collards for the bbq and now it's one of his favorite vegs.

@wookie - I would love a good greens recipe! Can you hook us up?

My niece, who is five, loves every vegetable known to mankind; she'll eat leeks, green onions, brussel sprouts, spinach and every other vegetable a kid is supposed to hate. I couldn't get her to eat eggplant for the longest time, she thought it was "gross." I finally got around to making her eggplant parmigiana and she LOVED it. I totally converted her, but then again it's pretty easy to love something slathered in marinara and cheese.

My fiance tends to eschew almost every vegetable. One night, early in our relationship, I decided to grill steaks and asparagus on the back porch, intending to hand him a plate of meat and enjoy the asparagus myself. To my delight, my fiance discovered then that loves grilled asparagus. Heaven help me if I try to cook it any other way. For him, it now must be grilled or nothing at all! And my preparation couldn't be simpler - olive oil, kosher salt, and freshly cracked pepper.
