What was the best thing you ate at last night's superbowl?
Lots of us were either hosting or visiting Superbowl parties last night. What was the best food thing there? At the party I was at yesterday, the winner, hands down, was my friend's chicken wings, which were awesome. They appeared to be regular old fried chicken wings, but there was honey and cayenne pepper as part of the batter and oh my goodness, I don't think I've ever had a better piece of chicken in my life. Sadly, my friend was pretty secretive about the recipe when I asked about it. Oh well.

Lots of great foos at our party - chili, baked ziti, potato skins, deviled eggs, etc. but the best item was - mini cheeseburgers!

Hands down...the pulled pork. When I used to make it in my little restaurant, I did so by only the slow cooking (oven braising) method. This time, BF wanted to smoke it first, so we did that for 2.5 hours, then did the long cooking. The smoke added a dimension of flavor unachieved in the past (although it was still very good and a customer favorite). I was really pleased with the smokier version.

The chili con queso I made (courtesy of Pioneer Woman) was popular, as were the empanadas (courtesy Paula Deen). But the kids absolutely devoured the simplest dip I made - salsa, with a layer of sour cream on top with a bit of cumin on it.
Oh, the wings were great too - we invested in one of those turkey deep fryers and did it in that - so crispy because the oil got SERIOUSLY hot!

I did the make your own quesadilla party courtesy of Pioneer Woman as well....and it was a big hit. It was also great because I did everything ahead of time, and was able to enjoy the game with my friends. We got started putting our quesadillas together as soon as halftime hit, and we were eating by the time the game started again. thanks again Ree!

I went to a party where the main dish was pulled pork. The cook woke up at 4:30am to start the smoking process. Need I say more? Yum!
I made the Pioneer Woman's jalapeno/cream cheese/bacon thingies. Delicious. Every single one was devoured. Thanks, PW!

my friend's fried walleye - has to be the best fish I've ever eaten. And my spinach artichoke dip was a close second.

I hear ya, PerkyMac! Best thing we had was a GIANT bowl of chili beer poached shrimp. Now I'm having a big craving for NEW YORK cheesecake - go figure!

@frederika.....OH MAN(ning), a GIANT NEW YORK cheesecake would be a real winner, after a little Manhattan Clam Chowder of course. None of that New England creamed stuff today..........ha!

The Buffalo chicken casserole I made was the biggest hit. It's just like having Buffalo wings, but without all the mess.
I took a whole roasted chicken, dismantled it and diced it, then sauteed it in a little butter and a whole jar of Frank's Red Hot sauce. In a 3qt casserole dish, I spread a mixture of 16oz. cream cheese (brought to room temp) and a cup of chunky blue cheese dressing on the bottom, then topped that with the chicken. I sprinkled just a bit of cheese on top and then baked at 350 for 20 minutes. Serve with celery sticks and crackers.
It was gone in 10 minutes. ;)

I made BLT's and roasted Russian banana fingerling potatoes as a "main entree" of sorts and meyer lemon curd in tart shells for dessert. All was very yummy! For Superbowl snacks, I made guacamole and served it with tortilla chips. Also had a selection of artisanal cheeses and seafood cakes. For a sweet bite, I made chocolate raspberry chipolte shortbread squares...they were good, but could have used a bit more chipolte..next time!

Looks like Pioneer Woman made a good showing at the superbowl this year!

The brownies were the best at the party I went to - I had three! And they had frosting :)

I'm with you, PerkyMac, never been a fan of the creamy New England slime (especially since that slimey Bellicheck desserted my Browns) - I'll take MANhattan...every time.

Single malt Islay whiskey. 16 years old.

Lots of great eats at the party I attended but no guacamole! Should have made and brought it myself. But my hosts did prepare the delicious Vietnamese summer rolls with the nuoc cham (nuoc mam?) dipping sauce. Kindly they let me leave with some of the leftovers!
Otabenga at 5:20PM on 02/05/08
I made the smoky 7-layer dip from CI, and pioneer woman's jalapeno bacon thingies...all were gone!
