What do you do with grapefruit?
This is my grapefruit time of the year & Feb is National Grapefruit month! My favorite is the Texas Ruby Red...cut in half & run the grapefruit knife around the sections & eat each bite with an iced tea spoon. I could eat this vitamin C packed fruit daily during the winter. Guess I'm kinda simpleton when it come to eating this fruit & don't even need to sweeten it! So, do you combine grapefruit with other citrus to make ambrosia? I've read it pairs well with seafood as well as avocado. How do you prefer to eat juicy this fruit?

I have made salsas with grapefruit instead of tomatoes - fantastic with chicken or white fish!

I've been eating a grapefruit everyday for the past month, and I definitely don't plan on stopping anytime soon! I usually eat them in the morning, but they make a great middle of the day pick-me-up, or a great midnight snack too! I peel off all the skin, then peel the membrane off each segment individually and eat it, without sugar or sweetener. The time involved in eating a grapefruit is definitely part of what makes it so satisfying. Plus, then you've got delicious smelling grapefruit oils all over your hands for the rest of the day!

I love them on their own, cut in half with a drizzle of honey on top. Yum... :)

This is so bad...but so me. I juice them and mix with Vodka. So much better than the bottled junk!

I've had a triple grapefruit cupcake idea rolling around in my head for a few weeks now. I usually make triple lemon cupcakes around this time of year (lemon cupcakes filled with lemon curd and topped with lemon cream cheese frosting), but I'm thinking of adapting the recipe for grapefruit...

They're so delicious just plain, in the morning or for a snack... I also like to peel them, slice them, sprinkle them lightly with dark brown sugar and then broil -- great dessert!

Ohhhhhhhh...and I forgot this...Brown Derby Grapefruit Cake, just sub the canned fruit for fresh!

I peel em like an orange, but I take the time to remove all of the segment membrane. The jewel-like flesh is surprisingly resilient, and will stick together long enough for me to gobble them up.

For years and years, I've simply peeled them and eaten the segments as-is, just like an orange, no sweetener.
They are definitely fantastic with avocado.
Excellent with seafood, especially crab. Gulfstream Restaurant (owned by Houston's parent company) serves a terrific crabcake salad that include fresh grapefruit and avocado. So delicious.
Even though I'm not a big juice drinker, I do love grapefruit juice. Especially fresh squeezed, as a base for a salty dog! Nom, nom...

Ooooh, DaveFaris, you beat me to it. I love to eat grapefruits the same way, and it's a fun little project. Keeps me amused for quite some time, and can be very...umm...romantic... to share a grapefruit this way with your loved one, feeding each other the best sections all the while.

I absolutely love Grapefruit- one of the reasons I look forward to winter!!!
Growing up, my Dad would always peel and segment my grapefruit for me- so sweet! I used to sprinkle salt on the segments.
Like others, I've had a grapefruit a day for the past two months and loved it.
This is how I like my grapefruit:
1. Peeled and segmented
2. Baked w or w/out a bit of brown sugar
3. Grapefruit juice granitas..squeeze juice and freeze!!!
Yum!
NutellaGirl at 12:07PM on 02/06/08
NutellaGirl, my Mum would do the same for me:-). I now do it myself, or sometimes, my husband does it for me. When I was little, I used to sprinkle sugar on the segments, but I no longer do as they are fantastic just the way they are. Like others, I also juice them or add segments to salads. Mmm...

I'm with DaveFaris and Kerosena on this one, although I eat the membranes around the segements unless they're really thick.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the grapefruit season! jcrisco---that cake is amazing! I have made a good fruit salad by combining oranges, grapefruit & a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds!
What is your favorite---white, red or pink? Have you ever purchased from an online source?
JEP at 4:37PM on 02/06/08
I love them I eat them like an orange an I like to mix them with grapes I really like the pink*
rabbitriddle at 5:11PM on 02/06/08
Pink! And nope, never purchased them online. I usually buy them at my local Asian grocery, and they are absolutely spectacular there.
brooke29 at 5:15PM on 02/06/08
I used to eat it for breakfast ALL the time! Cut a grapefruit in half....prepare it so you can easily scoop up the pulp with a spoon (use your knife around the edges and through each segment) and then top it with some sugar!
Breakfast in a snap!
