Hmm...as far as I know, for an authentic Hot Brown, you need to go to Louisville!

Having lived in Lexington for 20 years, you don't have to go to Louisville for a good Hot Brown, but you can, it's only 80 miles to the west, a very nice drive thru horse country. In Lexsington try DeSha's or Ramsey's for a Hot Brown.
I'd also suggest Joe Bologna's for 'bread sticks' and pizza. It sits on the edge of UK's campus, in an old temple--bread sticks are wonderful.
For true KY food, you can travel 45 miles or so south to Berea and Boone Tavern.
Back in Lexington for a little more 'upscale' try Malone's or Sal's--owned by the same folks.
For ice cream--try Graeter's--a Cinncinnati ice cream, but it's the best, by far.
Hope you're going in April, if so, try the burgoo at Keenelend, the throughbred race track--only open for 16 days or so in the spring and fall. Many of the KY derby horses train here prior to going onto Louisville.
Have fun.

Ramsey's is awesome!!!! Malone's is great, too. Those are two places that I try to hit when in Lex.
