Lip smacking meat pies
No, it's not because Sweeney Todd was just in theatres (though it helps, I'm sure), but I've got a hankering for a good meat pie. I happen to have a freezer full of lovely game, as well as some organic mince-beef, so why not make some meat pie? Thing is- I'm tired of bland meat pies. I'm sure there are some wonderful recipes out there- so I'm curious to find them! Traditional, reinvented, the sky's the limit- as long as it's a meat pie!

I am partial to both Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's recipes in his River Cottage Meat book and Penelope Casas' Spanish meat pie recipes, which may be more your style if you are looking for something zingy.
Since I too have a freezer full of game, I'll tinker with some venison or boar pies and get back to you!

Hooray for freezers full of game meat eh? I've just been finding that as much as I love a good scottish pie or cornish pasty, they're just overall too bland to really showcase that lovely meat inside. Even with the rich flavours of game. Even my usual trick of adding pepper and sage or rosemary in higher quantities doesn't seem to be cutting it for me these days.
I look forward to hearing what you come up with! Meanwhile I think I'll fiddle around a bit more myself, and check out those books. Thanks!

hi from pammy,I don't know the exact amount of ingredients, flavor to your taste.I boil potatoes just until tender, not mush.dice them up with a mixture of your meat. venision, pork,I have used.put the meat through a food prossesor till it looks like hamburger, mix with potatoes, add some finely diced carrots celery and onion, add some poultry seasoning or ground sage,I prefer poultry seasoning, salt, not to muc,and pepper.fill pie shell and top.bake about 40 minutes till pie crust browns. heat a jar of mushroom gravy or better pork gravy, comes out really well.

I've had some really good beef empanadas (not pie, but whatever) made with olives. And maybe if you added some strong seasoning to the crust that would pick up on the beef.

I make a chicken, fig, and mushroom pie that would probably work pretty well with game, too.

I have made 2 super delicious meat pies lately- had people over and they loved them. First I adapted a Jamie Oliver recipe I got from a Sainsbury's magazine like 2 years ago- a meat and mushroom pie:

and a chicken pot pie:

Good luck, and if you find any amazing recipes please share! I am going to try thebasilqueen's pie as well, it looks fantastic.
