I'm sick. I need food. And all I want is a Big Mac.
This is a semi spin off from Pumpkin Bear's Fast Food Action thread.
I'm sick, all achy and creaky and cranky and miserable. Even my hair hurts. I knew I should have gotten that flu shot! When I feel like this, the only thing I really want to eat is a Big Mac. I don't know why, because that's really the only time I ever want them. I call friends asking them to pick some up and deliver it to me, all ensconced in blankie and fuzzy slippers. I know I should be eating chicken soup and hot lemon tea and toast. But I don't want them (Can you hear the whine? It's so totally there.). When you're absolutely miserable and sick and cranky and awful, what do you eat? Any weirdness? Like my dad, all he eats wants are half sour pickles. Which I find very strange. Then I remember my Big Mac jones. You?

Don't guilt yourself over not getting the flu shot. My parents both did, and they've both had the flu twice this winter. If it makes you fell better, just eat the Big Mac. As for me, when I don't feel well, I go for homemade vegetable soup.

@Chisai, I'm glad to hear someone else say that they crave this kind of stuff when sick. I can go years without eating fast food, but I crave it when I get really sick. I crave cheeseburgers, french fries, saltines, and vanilla wafers when sick! I think it has something to do with the saltiness or sweetness, and sometimes fattiness because I can't taste much else than those three. I tend to eat relatively healthy -- a salad and lean protein every day for lunch and I try to lighten up traditional recipes for dinner. For some reason, though, when I get sick, I do not even want to look at a veggie or some hot, brothy soup.
You're not alone! I do hope you feel better soon!

When I'm sick, it's often a matter of what won't have an off-taste. Fish of any kind tastes weird, coffee tastes terrible, a lot of things will take on a metallic or other off flavor. A lot of times, I'll be rooting around in the fridge and everything tastes bad.
Mac and Cheese is always safe, as is rice. If there's spaghetti sauce already made, I might go for that, but I won't risk making it because I know my taste is off.
I do like BK Whoppers when I don't feel well, and McDonalds quarter pounders would be a second choice.

Comfort food has a terrific psychosomatic way of helping one recover from illnesses, so I say have at it!
I crave the old blue box mac 'n' cheese when I'm sick, so I'm not one to judge. :) :) :)

When I'm sick all I want is a big screen T.V., orange juice and canned clam chowder with saltine crackers. It is both disgusting and ridiculously comforting.

During the rare chance this carnivore gets sick - I go back to the basics - a (2) 24 packs of coke and a TV set. Just like mom used to provide. I'm usually better in a few days.
(i also don't get flu shots - I have all sorts of odd reactions to drugs and vaccines that I avoid them unless its a life or death situation)

I'd say, if it makes you feel better, than it is medicinal. I sometimes crave a glass of wine when I'm sick, and ever though alcohol is counter indicative, i have some just because it feels good. Same with dairy and chocolate. Sometimes you just need that immediate relief.

Having spent many, many years in healthcare, I can tell you that most doctors say, "If you're sick and you're hungry, eat what sounds good and tastes good. If you don't feel like eating, don't. Just drink plenty of fluids, get lots of rest and wash your hands obsessively. Oh. And keep yourself and your cooties at home."
Hubby and I have been doing battle with for the past few days with the flu bug my (supposedly adult) stepson felt obliged to share with the rest of us (he coughs/sneezes into his hands, and never washes them... no I did not raise him... ew...).
I've been lucky. Flu bug, 1. LoCo and Hubby, 9. Take that, little booger...
I truly, sincerely hope you're feeling much better very, very soon!
xoxo

They showed a flu map on the news last night. The vaccine didn't work and I think there were 3 states that aren't severely affected. Does it help at all to know you're not alone? I know, sorry.
When I'm sick, I still want my Mommy. And everything she made for me when I was a little girl. That was a very, very long time ago.
I hope you have someone who can get that burger for you.

When I'm sick or coming down with the fevery achies, I just want gallons of hot tea and maybe some graham crackers or toast.
I will never forget when, several years ago, I got home from work to find my husband curled up on the sofa in front of the fire with a raging fever, shivering, and his face as red as a beet. He made me go out for KFC for him, And, the crazy thing is, he kept it all down. He says when he gets sick, a nice layer of grease in his stomach always makes him feel better. With that thought in mind, go for the Big Mac and Godspeed!

I'm sick. I need food. And all I want is a Big Mac.
If you are making the above sentence, you need to get yourself a Big Mac. There are times to walk away from fast foods and times to eat whatever sounds good. If you're sick - you qualify for the "Pity Pass*" and you can go get whatever doesn't make you nauseous. (*You get a pass because the thought of broccoli makes you wretch right about now.)
Confession...I was about 5 months pregnant. I had this craving. By 11:30 a.m. it became an obsession. I begged off to an early lunch and darted at a dead run to the nearest McDonald's where I inhaled a Big Mac in about five bites. I say go for it.
