Has anyone received the Cook's Illustrated test recipes yet?

I signed up when SE posted the sign-up page. I guess it's only been a couple weeks, but still haven't received anything from them. Has anyone started getting any recipes yet? Am I just being ridiculously impatient?

I received one a couple days ago for a cream-less creamy tomato soup. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of tomato soup, so I won't be making/commenting on this one. They asked in the email that if you don't particularly like the food/recipe being tested, to not do so.

I got the cream-less tomato soup as well. I made it...and it was pretty good. I would have added an extra slice of bread to up the creamy factor but you can't beat the fact that it takes no more than 20 minutes to make.

When did you guys sign up?

I signed up about 2 weeks ago.

I haven't gotten anything yet :-(

Seyo, here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/2ob4gq Of course, I don't remember how to make it into a real link, so you'll have to copy/paste it, sorry...

brooke, that is the SE story I mentioned, and I signed up the day it was posted. I guess they didnt need me?

I signed up 2 weeks ago. On friday I recieved a test recipe for Stuffed Portobellos. Did anyone else get that recipe? I didn't get the tomato soup one.

I received the stuffed portobello recipe last Friday as well. I'm hoping to make it tomorrow. :)

And I got a fish one yesterday, so it looks like not everyone is getting the same recipes. I guess patience is the key here. I'm guessing we'll all get our chance. :)

Oops, sorry, I read "where" instead of "when", seyo. And I guess they didn't need me as well - I signed up the same day, and I haven't gotten anything either.

i got the stuffed portobello recipe friday too! havent tried it yet. recipe didnt knock me off my socks so im not sure i will test it.

Perhaps they don't send all recipes to all testers?

I haven't received any recipes yet either.

Nothing from them, but I did get an offer for some cooking club in the snail mail. I don't have any other subscriptions and haven't signed up for anything else recently, and I've never received any similar offer, but it seems really unlikely that Cook's Illustrated would sell our information. Somebody did, though.

Has anyone else received this? It sells itself as a way to test and review cooking products. Came with a spaghetti portioner and some blank recipe cards.

Nothing over here, either. Would somebody who's received a recipe already please post the domain of the sender's email address? E.g., @cooksillustrated.com or whatever it is? That way I can add it to my safe senders list, just in case it's getting caught up in the spam filter...

oooh, spam filter... didnt think to check that. I will go look in my spam folder to see if that's whats happening.

The Editors of Cook's Illustrated [noreply@qualtrics.com]

nope, nothing in my spam folder... I just signed up again, so I guess we'll see. Thanks everyone!

renzata, I've gotten that offer in the mail for that cooking club too, about once a year. So I don't think it has anything to do with Cooks Ilustrated as this is the first time i've signed up to test recipes. It might just be a random mailing?

i got the tomato soup one and it was great, my whole family loved it! nice to be able to used canned toms instead of tasteless ones at the supermarket...:)

thx jcrisco... i added it to the safe senders list... we'll see

I also received the stuffed portabello recipe...haven't been able to make it yet.

I didn't sign up to test recipes, but I'm wondering if website membership has any bearing?

I signed up a couple weeks ago and got a stuffed portabello mushroom recipe, which I haven't had time to make. I had a website membership, but it expired recently, and when I tried, several times, to renew it, the website wouldn't let me.

I got the tomato soup recipe this week, haven't made it yet, but looks good. I hope I get the mushroom recipe too!

i got the stuffed portobellos. will be trying it out thursday. can't wait.

I haven't gotten a recipe yet either, and I have their website membership.....guess I just have to be patient too!

Nothing here either- and I LOVE tomato soup! Ugh! cream-less would be perfect too, we're lactose intolerant here!

I'll keep waiting!

I got the recipe for tomato soup and made it tonight. I am not a fan of tomato soup, but my wife is and she loved it. It certainly beats anything I have been fed that purports to be tomato soup, but I still can't say that I love it!

I received one for stir-fried rice noodles that is due on Monday.

I was sent a recipe for pepper steak (I think?). I had to decline because I don't eat beef and hubby is out of town. I signed up 2 weeks ago as well. Would have LOVED the tomato soup recipe darnit!!

@Ethermaiden....do you want me to post the recipe or email it to you?

Haven't received anything yet but it is good to know that some people have.

I completely agree with jcriso. I made the tomato soup today and it was quick but not creamy enough!

I got a stuffed portobello recipe which i made and found somewhat lacking.

I also receive the tomato soup recipe. Since tomato soup is not a favorite at my house, I planned to give it a pass.

@jcristo: oh that would be wonderful!

I haven't received a recipe either and signed up the day the request was posted.

I signed up and haven't received anything either! But yeah it seems like everyone's getting different ones at different times, so I hope our patience will be rewarded!

Like most of you I didn't hear anything for at least two weeks after I signed up. I received a recipe on Feb. 1 for Bok Choy and Egg Noodles with Spicy Beef Sauce. I was a bit insulted when I discovered that it is a very slight modification of a recipe they published in 1998. If it was good then it's good now, if it was bad then it's bad now, so what's the point? It's not a very good recipe in any case. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.

If someone doesn't mind sharing, I would love a copy of the creamy tomato soup recipe.

I promise I'll post the creamy soup recipe this weekend....I keep forgetting. I got a crunchy baked fish today though.

Creamless Creamy Tomato Soup from Cooks Illustrated:

2 Tbs. EVOO
1 small onion, chopped
3 med. garlic cloves minced
1/8 t. hot red pepper flakes (optional --- and I used more)
1 bay leaf
2 (28oz) cans whole tomatoes
2 t. sugar
2 large slices good quality white sandwich bread, torn into 1 in. pieces
2 cups low sodium chicken broth
table salt and ground black pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives

1. Heat oil in Dutch oven over med-high heat. Add onion, garlic and red pepper, stirring, until onions are translucent. Add bay leaf and tomatoes. Using spoon, press tomatoes against sid of pot to release juices. Stir in sugar and bread. Cook, stirring constantly, until bread starts to break down (5 min).
2. Transfer soup to blender and blend until smooth and creamy (I used a hand blender). Return soup to pot and stir in chicken broth, bring to a boil and season with S&P. Serve in bowls and sprinkle with black pepper, chives, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Yay! I got my first recipe to test - it's a No-Roll Pizza Bianca with Caramelized Onions and Gruyere. Sounds good!

That's interesting, Brooke -- I just got a recipe for No-Roll Pizza Bianca with Tomatoes and Parmesan! I wish I'd gotten the one you got, frankly.

I just made the dough, and it's a sticky mess; I think the technique as described is overly complicated and a waste of time. I'll bake the pizza later today and see what's what. I'll be interested to hear how yours turns out.

:-(

I'm still waiting to get one. I feel so left out.

I just got my first one .. Crunchy oven baked fish .. today.

Still nada for me too. Why did I do wrong? Do they just hate me or something? I know I can be very opinionated sometimes...

I just got No-Roll Pizza Bianca. The only "toppings" on this is olive oil, salt, and rosemary. Sounds like the tomato and parm one might be tastier!

I a no-roll pizza bianca, too, but it calls for portabella mushrooms and taleggio cheese. Looks interesting, but not sure I'll have a chance to try it. Not to mention, could be tough finding the taleggio cheese around here...

re: the pizza..
anyone planning on making it soon? I was going to but I just found out that I'm going to be out most of the weekend. If anyone does try it, please post to say how it is :)

I received a test recipe for last week for a pork stir-fry lo mein that ended up being really good.
