Emergency HUNGER ATTACK Food?
Do you keep something in your desk drawer, purse, glove compartment, for those times when you're away from home or just don't have the time to eat a meal. I'm not talking about taking an apple from home. I mean non-perishables, something you always keep specifically for emergency hunger pangs, like gum or candy, dried fruit, granola bars, or a box of cookies? I always have those packages of peanut butter crackers that stop the tummy grumbling temporarily. What is your emergency food?

Hehe. I just mentioned these in my comment on JEP's thread. I keep those packs of peanut butter and crackers around all the time! Home, office, purse. They are not very good for me, BUT they seem to have just enough carbs to head off my blood sugar when it takes a nose dive. They keep/travel well and I don't have to think about them. Just replace once they are all gone. Plus, with cracker snacks, my kids won't raid them like they would a candy stash ;-)

Mine is Twix bars. I can't say why but I love them and hide them in my home office drawer. So far the kids haven't found them and my husband doesn't like them. Yeah!!!

Microwaveable popcorn (always have a stash); dried fruit (sometimes); cookies (but that's always just dessert after lunch)

I keep granola bars and microwave 98% fat free kettle corn in my desk at work. I have buttered popcorn, too, but don't crave it nearly as much as the kettle corn! At home, I'll grab some cashews, a granola bar or maybe a piece of fruit.

I've been working from my home office for the last couple of years, so I don't keep "emergency foods" any more since I can always grab an apple or a slice of bread (whole grain or rye) with whatever I have on hand (I do make sure I always have something I can spread/put on a slice of bread in case of a hunger attack).
But when I used to work outside of the house, I'd keep two kinds of "emergency" foods in my desk drawer - something sweet (usually it was a pack of tiny Kinder chocolates. I rarely see them in the States (sigh), but they were certainly my life savers), and something salty - mostly, it would vary from pretzel to crackers. I would also have a tin of Lemon Bonbons, and perhaps, a bag of jelly babies. I wasn't necessarily eating all of it all the time, but I loved having choices...just in case, you know:-).

In case of emergency, open pretzel bag. They are the perfect snack food. Very low fat and not too many calories if you don't down the whole bag. The little single serving bags keep you honest.

I definitely keep a stash of food at work for emergencies, but somehow that stash keeps growing bigger and bigger and I look like a food hoarder (I need drawers!)

Luna bars! I keep one in my purse at all times, just in case.

I keep little stashes here and there, but I rarely go to them. I have a plain oatmeal packet, and rice noodle bowl in my office in case I end up having to work through lunch.

The Special K snack bars are proving themselves invaluable in getting my way to 3:00. I am in class all morning with no more than 10 minutes break, and one of those bars around 11:30 or 12:30 keeps me good till I can get lunch. I started off with the meal replacement bars and they were actually too much.
When I'm out, and before I found them, I also like the peanut butter crackers. I get reeeeally cranky if I don't keep the blood sugar going, so these keep my world a much better place. I used to pass out when I was a kid, and the dr. said to eat a peanut butter sandwich before activities (sugar+protein). I think that advice at such a young age has resulted in my irrational affection for peanut butter.

Kashi Chewy Trail Mix granola bars...I need to know I have at least 3 boxes in the cupboard at all times! Sugarless gum package is always in my pocket while while at work.

I love Lara bars!! They have only fruit, nuts and spices in them, no crap -- and they come in the YUMMIEST flavors (cherry pie! ginger snap! cocoa mole!).
