Would you rather give up ice cream or cookies?
Tough decision! I do love a bowl of Haagen Dazs...but to never have a warm chocolate chip cookie would be torture! Ice cream or cookies, which could you live without?

That..would be torture. I could probably live without cookies if it meant that I would have to compensate it with more ice cream, gelato, sorbet

Cookies. Couldn't give up ice cream if you paid me.

Not being a huge sweets person, I seldom eat either one, so this took some thought. Probably I'd pass on the cookies as I eat ice cream far more frequently. I can substitute other warm-from-the-oven desserts, like cobbler, pie, etc., when it's cold. But when it's hot, there are times when nothing beats a little ice cream, gelato, sorbet or whatever.

I could live without ice cream in a heartbeat, but please don't take away my cookies. That's why when I was a kid I used to introduce myself as "KrystaMarieCookieMonster!"
evilchefmom at 8:37PM on 01/12/08
Ice cream for sure. Unless you are limiting me to store-bought cookies which hardly qualify for the name!
smallblondemom at 9:22PM on 01/12/08
If I have ice cream once a year, that's a lot. I do like pumpkin ice cream, but it's not available most of the time. I love homemade chocolate chip cookies, even though I don't eat them often either. If I had to give one up, it would most definitely be ice cream with no regrets.
PerkyMac at 9:36PM on 01/12/08
Who cares about cookies? I rarely eat them anyway.
There's nothing like an ice cold cup of French Vanilla ice cream to cool you off ~
paris221966 at 9:52PM on 01/12/08
definitely cookies...could not live without ice cream.
radley24 at 10:26PM on 01/12/08
just the thought of answering this makes me too sad to make a rational decision...
cybercita at 11:26PM on 01/12/08
Really tough! I could never give up cookies. I love to bake them - I can't imagine not smelling the cookies in the oven!
Littlebluesiren at 11:26PM on 01/12/08
That's an easy one for me (much easier than potatoes vs. bread:-)), since I rarely eat cookies...but I can't imagine life without pistachio ice cream!
brooke29 at 11:55PM on 01/12/08
Hmm. Is frozen yogurt counted in that ice cream category? Because I definitely could not give that up. Ever. Cookies are good, but I don't crave them nearly as often as I do ice cream/fro yo.
(Best of both--Cookies and Cream ice cream. Yum :) )

Awww I'd have to say ice cream, although I love it to bits. I adore my baking, and cookies are so easy and make my house smell so good. I wouldn't want to give up either, but I'd give up ice cream if I had to lose one.
LizzieBee at 6:59AM on 01/13/08
Cookies and ice cream need each other, without one the other couldn't survive!
Lilartist at 8:05AM on 01/13/08
I would give up ice cream, no contest. I don't make ice cream at home, but I love baking cookies - and while ice cream is limited to non-freezing-cold seasons (at least for me), cookies are good anytime. Though I'm surprised no one has addressed where this scenario leaves one of the very best ice-cream flavors: cookies and cream. Thanks for the question, JEP!
producestories at 9:47AM on 01/13/08
cookies. easy. i love ice cream. i make ice cream. i'll bargain with myself (ie: walk on the treadmill today and you can have some). it's a real problem. cookies i can live without.
lexophile at 10:35AM on 01/13/08
WHAT KIND OF HORRIBLE QUESTION IS THIS? That's like asking what beloved family member I'd rather have die!
...
I really like ice cream. I think I have to keep it.
roboppy at 4:54PM on 01/13/08
Wow, my first thought was that I really like cookies, but then I started reading responses. LoCo mentions something about "other warm desserts," and I think if I could still have brownies, I'd be able to give up cookies. And keep the ice cream.
Kerosena at 6:00PM on 01/13/08
LoCo & Kerosena & producestories....I think you may have figured out how we can have both...warm desserts can be "cookie-like" & the cookies & cream ice cream works for me, too:)
JEP at 6:56PM on 01/13/08
This decision was waaaaay easier than potatoes vs. bread. I could give up cookies, but if I never had ice cream again I would be a woeful girl.
psychsarah at 1:04PM on 01/14/08
Definitely ice cream. I tend to "overdo" it and no matter how few spoonfuls of the stuff you put in your mouth, the fat count (of any decent 'scream) is in the stratosphere.
Cookies are portion controlled. I like that about them :D
chiff0nade at 1:13PM on 01/14/08
I could give up cookies.....don't take away my ice cream!
mepolo at 1:15PM on 01/14/08
Could never give up cookies! A good homemade cookie with oatmeal, chocolate chips, nuts and dried cherries is one of life's simiple, but exquisite pleasures.
ciaobella at 2:07PM on 01/14/08
I could give up cookies. I rarely eat them as it is. I don't eat ice cream that often either, but I can't imagine not having the option to treat myself to it!
Amandarama at 2:21PM on 01/14/08
Ice cream oh yea I did say that.....I love it but my mom bakes amazing cookies an the cookies I get at the green market are wonderful I would just eat pudding or yogurt...I would have to blind folded at the supermarket in the frezzer section though!!!!!
rabbitriddle at 3:12PM on 01/14/08
Oh jep, why, WHY?
I would have to say ice cream, because I love baking cookies, and you can't bake 'em and not eat 'em.
CookiePie at 4:59PM on 01/14/08
Cookies. In this sad country, I rarely eat a decent cookie unless I bake it myself. It is much easier to get delicious ice cream, on the other hand, in Boston it was spectacular, and we also make it ourselves. My husband has a terrific gooseberry fool ice cream recipe.
