What's your favorite type of apple?

I'm on a Cameo kick . . . eating it cut-up with some raw unsalted Trader Joe's brand almond butter.

If you want to share your favorite way to enjoy an apple or apples, feel free.

i love fujis

Granny Smith for pies.

Now that the Honeycrisp season is over, I buy Fuji. Usually cut up in quarters & eat out of hand..Fruit salad made with grapes, kiwi, bananas & pecans--yum!

Yeah, honeycrisp is the best, except that they aren't available year round. Fuji's are a pale substitute.

Macoun's are my hands down favorite. Then Pink Ladies, then Granny Smith. Macoun's, for me, are awesome when sprinkled with S&B Black Sesame seasoning. It's a mix of Black Sesame Seeds, salt and a tiny bit of msg. Granny's I love with sharp cheddar cheese, and Pink Ladies, when I can find them, I like with yogurt. That said, out of hand is always nice.

Honeycrisp, Fugi and Granny Smith for pies too !

Fugi for eating out of hand (with nut butter....yum) and in waldorf salad, or any green salad, and Granny Smith for applesauce and baking. However, I never heard of Honeycrisp and now I'm going to hunt it down like I'm on safari.

Honeycrisp are fantastic, there is still a place in my town that has them - which makes me so happy!

I'm an apple a day (at least) girl and I want them crisp, sweet and juicy. My daughter brought home a HUGE organic apple from a health food store and I never tasted anything like it. She didn't know what it was called. I was tempted to get on the train to Manhattan and chase it down. That was years ago and I'm sorry I didn't. I want that apple again. I've tasted every one around here in PA, and no luck. Maybe it's a honeycrisp? Where are they grown? Do they get almost as big as a grapefruit?

Crabapples..when someone in my family discovers a tree and shamelessly steals them off other peoples property. I eat them plain or dipped in this sour/spicy dip they make..it's probably just a Southeast Asian-American thing though...

I have a crabapple tree - you can have mine. They give me a belly ache. ;(

Pink Ladies, all the way!

Gala apples with some sharp Cheddar cheese slices. Mmm...

Am I the only person in the world that doesn't like apples? :(

Fuji and gala apples. Love them on their own or dipped in honey. Or in a salad with Boursin, red onion and cilantro. Or just with any other good cheese. mmm....

For supermarket apples Fuji is my favorite. Honeycrisp are also mighty fine. There was an orchard near where I grew up and they grew these
tiny, tart, Jonathons that were so crunchy they were almost hard. My dad loved them and i could never figure it out until one day I had a Roxburry russet that was similar (maybe better-sorry dad) and got it.
So overall winner is Roxburry Russet.

Granny Smith. As a favorite snack, quartered and then spread w/ peanut butter. They make great pies/tarts. I love the crispness. Fuji are also good for pies, mixed w/ galas. For straight eating, it's GS for me or nothing!

Honeycrisp when in season... year round, fuji's.... I just like to eat them straight up.

Mutsu (aka Crispin) is my favorite apple variety. They are on the tart side, and quite crisp, but not as tart as Grannies - perfect for pie and applesauce. Macoun and Empire apples are probably tied for second. I love any of 'em sliced thinly on a baguette, sprinkled with a bit of goat cheese, and broiled. Nom.

Fuji, honeycrisp, and jonigold. Mmm.

Sweet, juicy, crispy, and one is enough to fill you up for a while.

Hands down Macoun. But only the ones grown in upstate NY - the ones grown elsewhere pale in comparison. After that, I vote for Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Granny Smith, in that order.

Granny Smith for day to day but a really good a Gala or Honeycrisp is fantastic (but they have to be really good ones, whereas Granny Smiths are generally good all the time)

Honeycrisp when they're available and after that it would be just about anything except delicious. Who ever named those must have been drinking.

New England grown Cortland or Empire apples! This was a good year for them.

Honeycrisp are by far the best. If there are none then Granny Smith has to be it.

Mmm. An apple a day for me! I love golden delicious, though macintosh is good when in season.

pink ladies are everything i love about apples!

but i also adore getting lots of different kinds at the greenmarket in the fall.

my all time favorite apples are from one of the organic vendors at the union square market. they pick apples off an old tree by a creek and keep them in an unmarked carboard box for the cognoscenti. they are ugly as sin, gnarly, flyblown, and dull skinned. let's just say that their taste is every bit as amazing as their looks, but in a good way.

Basically any kind that's crispy. I really don't like soft mushy ones.

Honeycrisp. Winesap on the East Coast. Fuji for year 'rounders.

It's a three-way tie between pink ladies, honey crisps, and fujis.

Pink ladies. But I also love Jonagold, Winesap, Nittany, Granny Smith (and yes, I do like Honeycrisp).

But I will never eat Red Delicious. Never!

honeycrisp, pink ladies but most often its fuji because of availability. to eat them I like them just sliced in wedges.

Empire apples are my favorite.

PerkyMac: Maybe your mystery apple was a pound sweet (aka pumpkin sweet)?

I fell in love with Gala apples when I first moved to Colorado. They are ideal for both eating out of hand and cooking. They are firm and sweet but not too sweet and they hold their shape when cooked. I rarely if ever buy another type of apple. I used to eat Granny Smith apples but then decided I didn't want my mouth turned inside out everytime I ate an apple - they're tart!!! :D

Thanks stlwaters! I'll have to look them up. I'd be so grateful to find them.

Meantime, I'll stick to my Granny Smith and Fuji with PB, and keep an eye out for Honeycrisps, Pink Ladies, and Pound/Pumpkin Sweet. My quest continues!

I used to be a big Pink Lady fan until I discovered local Goldrush apples. They are now out of season, and I struggle to bring myself to eat the regular grocery store apples.

Macintosh (in season). For eating, pies, and apple sauce. They are so sweet, I can smell them from the next room.

Any kind of Apple with any kind of topping. Particularly Braeburn with either Peanut Butter or Cheese.

Fuji, Red or Golden Delicious for eating. Granny Smith for baking (or to be dipped in fondue). Basically, I'll eat just about any apple except for Macintosh which I find to be mealy.

I too am an "apple a day" sort of girl I adore Honeycrisp when I can get my hands on them. I've had good luck with Empire lately. I do adore a very good, crunchy Red Delicious (although they are hard to come by-lots of mealy and mushy ones out there). Gala are tasty too. Really, I love most apples, but I can't get on board with Golden Delicious, they just never tickled me.

If at the grocery store, I buy yummy macouns, but from the orchard down the road, I get lots of Cox Orange Pippin - perfect for apple sauce and out of hand eating.

It was Jona Gold, now fuji. It depends what signs the guys at the green market have in front of the apples. The ones that say crispy, sweet, great for eating, usually become my favorite for the season.

I used to love Red Delicious for just plain eating but now I love granny smith in apple cobbler!

Chew on That

My favorite are Granny Smith apples. I like to eat them out of hand or with caramel or with brie and candied walnuts. My son's favorite are Fuji apples just simply eating out of hand. We are on opposite ends of the spectrum of sweet and tart.

Granny Smith and McIntosh!

honeycrisp and pink lady; only organic.

honeycrisp and the new pinata! has anyone tried them?

@frenchassassin: Haven't tried the Piñata but it's related of my current favorite, the Cameo. Both are part Golden Delicious. Cameo is G/D + Red Delicious. Funny, because I dislike both G/D and R/D apples. I believe Pinata is G/D + Cox's Orange Pippen + Duchess of Oldenberg. That's some diverse parentage.

I'll be on the lookout for Piñata. Sounds like my kind of apple.
