What summer foods are you cravin'?

Here in the Midwest, it's a cold, snowy January day. My mouth wants a juicy, sweet peach. I wanna walk to the ice cream shop for a double-dip lemon custard cone. Not gonna happen when it's 24 degrees. What "summer season" food & beverages would you like a taste of today?

Tomatos...I always crave them because I was raised in the midwest where you can easily grow your own lovely, sweet, juicy tomatos...but they royally suck in Florida YEAR ROUND. Other than that, not much...btw...it's 77 here today. ;)

Nectarines, mmm. Or a nice big sack of cherries.

watermelon oh and pretty much anything from the fruit and veggie stands in the hamptons, like freshly picked corn (i think its called silver something) and heirloom tomatoes

In my family, walleye (all the males are huuuuge walleye fishermen).

We eat it at least once a week all summer long.

But all summer foods sound divine right now...

Expecting snow any moment.....sigh. :(

Ripe, juicy tomatoes, silver queen or bi-corn, cantelopes warm from the sun, peaches off the tree, all the vegetables in the garden, gosh, I love summer. My children are all in CA, what the heck am I doing here????

blueberries. My local stores are selling chilean ones, but they're not quite the same.

Fresh, fruity, juicy things. Light, clean things. Raw, recently-picked things.

Just picked corn on the cob, tomatoes off the vine with baby lettuces, and some peaches.

seafood, it just isn't the same in the winter.

Tomatoes! And corn, and berries, and, oh, just about everything else!

tomatoes that are still hot from the sun.

mmm...lovely tomatoes and blueberries (why can't they be in season for when you want to bake muffins on a cold day? The frozen ones are so expensive.)

oh - and fresh basil and chives, and mint to add to my tea!

peaches & cream sweet corn slathered in butter & salt from our corner stand...paired with a BLT, amybe some lemonade?
Or how bout some icy cold coronas with some salt and lime- served in a bucket, oh with a little peel & eat shrimp, maybe some conch fritters with that carribean mayo stuff, oh what the hell can I just get a big ole'crab boil while I'm at it?
Clearly, I need to eat lunch....

Frozen margaritas (just not desirable in the frigid weather), garden tomatoes, local corn/ fingerling potatoes/ little neck clams/ bbqs/ iced tea. OH I can't wait!

Oysters are best in winter, of course, but some of the other stuff is deep summer eating. Tomatoes. Bathtub peaches. (So juicy you have to eat them in the tub.)

And I like ice cream in the winter. When it's cold enough that the cone doesn't melt before you eat it, that's fine with me.

Sniff sniff..... I miss fresh!
Tomatoes. Basil. Road-side-stand peaches & cream corn. Fresh raspberries, still sun-warm. Sipping a chilled rose on the deck, barefoot, waiting for ribs to finish on the grill. Ice cold beer with lime. Insalata caprese. And did I mention tomatoes?

Yay Michigan winters.

I need to add...corn charred on the grill & a tall glass of iced tea!

CORN ON THE COB!!! Thanks JEP--now I'm going to have a craving for it!

I could also go for some ripe cherry tomatoes, berries of any sort, and a bowl of ice cream eaten outside on a hot summer's night.

Humph.

Cherries!

I'm crying now....thanks.

Haha,

Chew on That

I'm putting in a few more requests...the bing cherries all of you are mentioning, really sweet strawberries (thinking shortcake to go with) & blueberries to top my cereal (since I've given up eggs--ha)!

Corn ripped off the stalk and walked straight to the grill with the brook trout I caught that day, sliced heirloom tomatoes and yellow watermelon for dessert.

Sweet Yellow Corn from Yakima, Peaches from Wenatchee, Strawberries from Orting and Sweet 100 Tomatoes from my Mother's climbers.

Cherries and fresh tomatoes for salsa and Caprese salad and tomato sandwiches.

Gazpacho! And all kinds of berries: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, currants...

timely question for me! I was just telling my friend how much I was craving an agua fresca from this local mexican joint. Preferably watermelon!

DEFINITELY the grilled corn and all the rest of the produce!

Real, local strawberries. Local tomatoes (preferably ones off my own vines).

@whippingwater: if you invite me, i'll bring cherries, strawberries & shortcake and peaches. that brook trout with grilled corn has my mouth watering, and then you threw in heirloom tomatoes and yellow watermelon. heck, i'll fish with you too!

what about the BBQ ribs & cole slaw 2 go wit thy corn every1 is talking about..!

Corn, fresh berries >_

cucumbers, fresh dill, tomatoes, yellow summer squash, sigh.......

Grilled trout with basil butter, Silver Queen corn on the cob, gazpacho with fresh bread, bing cherries, key lime margaritas on a day with nothing else going on, heirloom tomato tart with chevre, crab custard tart, cook-outs with country ribs, panzanella, grilled shrimp tacos with plenty of avocado, and blackberry ice cream in a cone (it's not the same in the winter).

All kinds of summer fruit - peaches and melons and berries. Winter fruit is okay (in Summer I bemoan the lack of really tasty citrus), but there's just nothing like biting into a super-ripe nectarine.

Oh, and beefsteak tomatoes and corn on the cob.

Fresh picked, sun ripened strawberries. White peaches, blackberries & Maryland corn.

Thick slices of heirloom tomatoes layered with fresh mozzarella & fresh basil & olive oil (room temp), home grown lettuces (so tender), any berry, corn on the grill with sweet butter, potato salad, a tall any-drink with lots of ice drunk while under my umbrella, bare feet....85 degrees out.
