What do you love to cook, but can't stand to eat?

A friend mentioned how she loves to bake chocolate chip cookies because they are her husband's favorite, but dislikes chocolate, so never eats them. I'm thinking that this scenario must happen almost daily for a restaurant chef. What dish do you cook or bake but have no interest in eating? Why?

I find eating cooked eggs repulsive, but enjoy making omelettes and scrambled eggs... in fact, the latter was the very first thing I ever cooked (night after night for two weeks, for my very patient parents, when I was eight).

I really do not care for chocolate, but I love making elaborate chocolate desserts because 1) they are challenging and I love a good baking challenge, and 2) most of my friends love chocolate and so I enjoy making things for them that they really like.

I'll eat just about anything. Wish I could cook as many things as I can eat!

I don't really care for cheesecake, but I love to make it! Luckily it's not difficult to find others to take it off my hands :)

I'm with PerkyMac. I will eat anything. But I cannot stand when I spend the time to make nice fluffy scrambled eggs and my husband puts ketchup on it. Now I know many people do this but I just can't stand the look of it. I like ketchup on alot of other things including potato chips just not my eggs.

My mom will cook seafood, but will not eat it. Afterwards, she makes us all deep-clean the kitchen, brush our teeth and scrub from head to toe. She grew up with a fishing pond in her backyard and her family was always eating fish.

Fried Giblets.

Blech. And Orange Beets/Roasted Beets. Blech squared.

Meatballs. Yuck.

There are probably others, but the only things that readily come to mind are whipped cream and meringue. I'll eat whipped cream, but I've never much cared for it. Meringue is something that seldom crosses my lips. As a kid, I refused to have anything to do with either one, and scraped off every trace of them. It's a texture thing. But I really like making whipped cream for people who love it, especially if they don't realize how much better the real, fresh-made stuff is than the aerosol can version, or (shudder) Cool Whip.

I definitely cook to make others happy, but I always get more pleasure out of it if I''m making something I enjoy eating.

French onion soup. I really can't handle eating onions, but it comes out looking so purty.

chocolate layer cake. it's always kind of disappointing, especially after all that work.

lemon meringue pie. i made it for my ex-husband several times while we were married but i refuse to eat it.

JEP, I'm still trying to get over the fact that your friend doesn't like chocolate!

Good one! Let's see....stir fry!

I don't usually like stir fry (or my stir fry that is) but it's fun to cook :)

Chew on That

Oh what a good girl I must be...I either cannot stand, hate passionatly or could live the rest of my life without eating:

fish or anything from the sea
sausage, italian
macaroni and cheese (boxed)
pierogies
chili
eggs, over easy
eggs, deviled
pancakes/waffles/french toast
stove top stuffing
jello

However, Jake loves all of the above. I just make it, serve it with a smile and try not to wretch if it is in the form of eggs or jello. Then I eat something he hates such as any green vegetable!

RichardCrystal---sad isn't ir:)

I wonder how frequently a chef in a restaurant dislikes something he (she) is preparing but draws alot of satisfaction from knowing the person who ordered truly liked it?

I can't stand eating the Thanksgiving turkey after I've made it. Once you've had your had up inside that thing, the bloom is off the rose, as far as I'm concerned.

And it looks so darned good, too.

This whole thread is sort of incomprehensible to me. I love to cook because I love to eat (or did the chicken come before the egg?). That being said, I love to cook desserts--cakes, pastries, mousse, cheesecake and on and on. The fancier the better. The only problem is I try very hard not to eat those things and most of my family will enjoy it at the meal but then never go back to finish it off (boggles the mind, doesn't it?). So I don't make them anywhere near as often as I would like...except pie, everyone always eats pie!

It's a great question - at first I thought that I eat everything I cook, but nope, not at all. I cook fish in all kinds of different ways, but I don't eat it. The funny thing is, my in-laws love whatever fish I cook (no matter which way I cook it) so much that they always try to convince me to eat it:-) ("it's not fishy at all!"). I used to make beet salad for my ex all the time, but I wouldn't taste beets to save my life. Pot roasts, briskets, corned beef even beef stews, etc - I enjoy cooking them, but I don't fancy beef too much (other than in beef carpaccio - go figure), so I usually don't eat them either.
