Theme Party Ideas: Theme is The Beach & Sea

Still working on actual title, but the idea is things to do with the beach/sea. The party is mid March and we live in New England. I try to also do as much seasonal as possible. We are having a dinner for 10 adults to celebrate our dogs 3rd birthday. He's a hurricane Katrina rescue and loves the beach. Last year we did a Mardi Gras theme. Anyhow, we're looking for some inspiration in the food department. We've brainstormed the following so far: Flounder for the main course, bamboo rice (for the gorgeous green color), cauliflower (think coral).. Mini crab cakes for an appetizer. For dessert, I was thinking of doing a cut out cookie in various sea life shapes. We decorate the house to match the theme as well....yes, I know, it's kooky, but everyone enjoys it and that's the imortant thing. Oh, the beverage I'm thinking of is Blue Margarita's. So, if anyone has any food or decor ideas, let me know. Thanks!

when i was young i remember my mom made a "dirt cake" for a birthday party that was a big hit. it was a crumbly sort of cake mixture with gummy worms inside and was served in a sand pail with a sand scoop. it was so much fun. i'm sure you could do the same sort of thing for a beach theme - make a sand colored cake and crumble it up and add some fun gummy treats that are beach themed and serve it in a pail! better yet try to mold it like a sand castle :)

How about some small plate appetizers:

Crab and mango salad on endive leaves
Mini crab cakes
Jumbo shrimp poached in lager beer
Mini lobster rolls
Crab stuffed mushrooms
Steamed mussels drizzled in alfredo sauce
Shrimp wrapped in peapods with sesame-ginger dipping sauce
